Guys, I just realized something about Hawks from mha.
If Keigo can vibrate his feathers to feel his surroundings, does that mean he uses echolocation?
Also, hawks can't use echolocation because they don't have the special organ in their brains called cochlea for bats or the melon for toothed whales. However, there are 2 species of birds that use echolocation. Oilbirds and swiftlets. They use the cochlea like bats. These birds look nothing like Hawks.
Therefore, it makes no sense for Hawks to be able to feel his surroundings.
Okay but fr some reasons I think Hawks will not get his wings back BUT be okay:
Fantasy and winter Keigo has no wings (the white ones are just a part of hus coat) and short hair and in the fantasy one he looks slightly older, and in both he looks at peace
The Hori sketch here, where his feathers are in the air, but blowing out of frame, and his wings are gone, hair is short and he is smiling kinda weird, looking both happy, relieved and distraught.
He has always had a complicated relationship with his wings. Recently he has refered to them as dirty and a negative thing several times, and he obviously has some work to do with the whole Twice thing.
It was one of his own feathers that killed him, and I hope that with losing his wings, it will give him an opportunity to reflect on his feelings, and let go of the guilt and anger and the past in general.
Honestly idk at all ofc, but I just very seriously doubt he will have a sad ending.
Of course I hate seeing him go trough all of this, but honestly the others are going trough it, too, and I still choose to feel somewhat hopeful about the ending of MHA.
so, based on the latest chapter it looks like hawks lost his wings for real. do you think thats a sufficient consequence for his actions or do u believe that he will still have to die?
I didn’t see that mentioned this chapter.... I’m not sure.
But, well, the point of consequences is that they’re supposed to warn you to change the route you’re on. If you refuse, the consequences get larger and larger. If Hawks really lost his wings and starts reconsidering “maybe I shouldn’t have been so quick to murder Twice” then I’ll be more hopeful, but that hasn’t happened yet. Thus far it’s all justification.
I think it’s pretty clear something is likely to go wrong with the Top 3 + Deku team-up. Danger Sense went off, yo. Maybe seeing how unwilling Dabi is to consider jack-shit from a guy teaming up with his friend’s murderer plus his wings being melted will make Hawks reconsider and have a wakeup call. Actually, I think this is likely.
The question is what Hawks does in that moment. Honestly, I still think he’ll make a bad choice again in that moment (like heading straight for “put down Dabi”), be saved from that by Enji sacrificing himself for Dabi (and Enji will probably be seriously injured), and then have to do some soul searching because I think Hawks would be horrified and distraught he hurt his hero--but the irony would be Enji would be saving both his son and Hawks by stopping Hawks, and contributing to saving both of them from themselves. I don’t think Hawks is a feelingless monster who gets off on killing; I just think he needs a wakeup call.
I also need to clarify--I’ve never thought Hawks would “have” to die like say Eren Jaeger or be put down like Adam Taurus. It’s more like if this happens, he’d die heroically having redeemed himself after a really bad low moment. But Horikoshi doesn’t like to kill characters, so it is quite possible he’ll be able to redeem himself and live. Usually when you kill your shadow in literature, though, it doesn’t end well, and I’m a pessimist about survival, so I’m more likely to inaccurately predict a death than not predict one. I would be very happy if Hawks redeems himself and survives.
I just think Hawks is heading for a big fall this arc, but that doesn’t mean I think he’ll die during it (I don’t. If he dies, it would be in the endgame/final battle, and it’d be heroically.)
What exactly is Dabi’s ideology/philosophy? What does he value?
He stated that he plans to make stain’s will a reality, which is to get rid of “false heroes”. He also then says that there are no “real heroes in this world” (which I like the meta aspect of) which is different from what stain thought. Unlike stain, he doesn’t believe that true heroes even exist, and thinks that all these fake ones shouldn’t either. It’s similar to what Shigaraki and the rest of the league feels, but I think Dabi has the most straightforward and “purest” form of this goal. Shigaraki has his childhood trauma and afo, and the rest of the league just wants a place to belong and fit in. Dabi is the only one who has this one clear goal he’s constantly working towards. Even though his ideals are different from stain, he holds the same fundamental idea. I think he wants to be a symbol like stain was, and his character currently is very much a “pure” representation of this idea. (Maybe that’s why hori hasn’t given him any characterization beyond that lol)
With this, I would like to look at some of Dabi’s dialogue in the most recent chapter and try to interpret it keeping his values in mind.
Looking at this line, it seems illogical and hypocritical. How are Pro Heroes “dirtier” than Villains when the Villains literally kill tons of people for far less valid reasons? I believe this is because what Dabi calls “dirty” isn’t referring to the act of killing, but the act of deception. Heroes claim themselves to be always heroic, and that their job is to save people, yet here is Hawks killing a person instead of saving them. He stabbed a man running to save his friends in the back, yet still calls himself a Hero.
This line is another one that is hypocritical. The LOV has a 17 year old and used to have a middle schooler on their side, so why is UA the only one that’s pathetic? The answer lies in deception again. Toga and Mustard came to the LOV knowing the consequences and fully prepared as to what they were about to do. They sought out the league on their own terms and got exactly what they wanted/expected. Contrast that to the beginning of this arc, when Kaminari was terrified and had no idea what was going on. The students were not told why they were there or who/what exactly they were up against, and what kind of war they were fighting. In Dabi’s eyes, the students just wanted to be heroes, and the authorities are using them for their own political agenda. That could be why Dabi says to Shoto “it’s sad” because the students are being tricked into becoming “false heroes” by using their dreams of becoming a real one. Does this make Dabi right and the LOV better than the Heroes? Hell no. Dabi doesn’t care about the ethics of children being involved in villainy if that’s what they want, but he cares about the children being lied to, and manipulated into fighting a war that’s not their own.
This definitely fits into the Dabi is Touya theory, because as a kid he would’ve had to grow up with society admiring his father and calling him a “Hero” when he saw that he was the exact opposite at home. He would have seen Endeavor as a complete lie, tricking everyone into thinking he was someone worthy to be called a Hero. Endeavor is the epitome of deception for Dabi, and is the basis of his goal to get rid of the heroes.
I think Dabi plans to make Hero Society stop pretending to be something it isn’t, and make a society similar to ours where “Heroes” are allowed to be questioned and criticized instead of blindly worshiped like celebrities. He probably plans to do this by targeting the system, and changing it, instead of destroying it like Shigaraki wants to do. The two have never been on the same page but there’s obviously trust between them so it’ll interesting to see how far they’ll take their goals before they start to conflict with one another.
I also think it’s interesting that Dabi shows more regret in killing a single hero than a bunch of street thugs, whom he calls trash. I think a part of him recognizes that heroes do save a lot of people and are just doing their job. I don’t think he wants to kill every hero like stain or Shigaraki, because he knows not everyone is like his dad. What he wants is to get rid of the system that allowed his dad to get away with what he did while under the guise of “a real hero”. A system that makes kids believe that they can be heroes. Dabi is unhinged for sure, but he has a certain saneness that is different from Toga or Shigaraki, and he himself likes to make that distinction by constantly calling Toga “crazy” and completely ignoring and disregarding Shigaraki’s rants. He doesn’t enjoy killing like Toga or vents his trauma through destruction like Shigaraki, nor does he want to fit in like Spinner or Twice. From what we can gather so far, he purely wants to change society.
About Hawks, he’s been covered in lies and deception since he’s been introduced, which makes an interesting counter to Dabi. I don’t think they’re done interacting just yet, we need to know why Dabi knew hawks’ name and why he chose to yell it at that moment. We also need to know why Dabi let hawks into the LOV knowing he was a double agent. The easy answer would be childhood friends (which would be amazing) but at this point it could go either way.
In conclusion Dabi values honesty, and his lines make more sense with that in mind.

Best Jeanist’s death has actually been foreshadowed to matter again this arc. We know this because the audience was given a reminder. We were shown that he was reported missing and Bakugo is concerned about this. Best Jeanist’s death and Hawks’ mission as a spy are actually connected, because after this arc ends and the raid fails I think Hawks is going to be scapegoated and receive the majority of the blame, and his actions as a double agent including the killing of best jeanist will come to light and be used to discredit him. More under the cut.
1. The Build Up
So, Hawks has been set up to take a fall. Literally everyone and their mom knows this. Hawks has been pictured with his wings burning up because of Endeavor’s fire. However, there has been much more specific foreshadowing than this. I think what’s set up at the end in the Pro Hero arc, will cause Hawks’ downfall in this arc.
This arc parallels the pro hero arc. Endeavor is making his first major move as number one. Hawks and Endeavor are the main heroes who are in charge of this raid. The raid needs to succeed in order for peace and stability to return to hero society. This arc is also the culmination of Hawks’ actions that was set up in the PRO HERO arc.
At the end of the Pro Hero Arc, Endeavor has made his debut as the number one hero and earned the public favor of everyone. Hawks and Endeavor are the heroes by the end of the day. The Dabi reveal doesn’t happen, and Enji doesn’t even recognize who Dabi is.
That might all be reversed by the end of this arc. Enji and Hawks have taken the majority of the responsiblity for what is turning out to be a failed raid.
The raid was orchestrated by Hawks, and then lead by Endeavor. They are the two people most responsible. They also both consented to the idea of bringing students right into the warzone. If the raid fails they are the ones most likely to go down and take the blame for it.
This is already happening by the way. Was this raid a good idea? Won’t this just make things worse?
2. The Fall
Best Jeanist’s death is probably going to be something used to discredit Hawks when the hero council abandons him. The imagery of Hawks’ wings being burned off has already happened, that foreshadowing has been cashed in, and the fact that Hawks is no longer useful gives plenty of reason to cast him aside.
Icarus’ wax wings melt.
And then he falls.
To review the foreshadowing. Dabi steps up into the light, Hawks steps down into the shadows. Hawks’ downfall has been foreshadowed multiple times.
The reason why Hawks killing Best Jeanist is important is because it’s a consequence for Killing Twice. Hawks is such an extremist in his methods he’s willing to kill people and sacrfice them for what he believes is the greater good. This doesn’t just apply to villains, but heroes as well. It’s likely nobody will even care that Hawks killed Twice because he’s a villain, but the public will care that Hawks killed Best Jeanist.
It’s the same action twice. It’s Hawks deciding someone else is disposable and killing them with their back turned. However, Hawks doesn’t even have the excuse that he was desperate and it was the heat of the moment with Best Jeanist like it was with Twice, because it was all pre-meditated.
Hawks’ flaw is set up to be his determination which is so strong, he doesn’t stop himself from even killing if it thinks he’s going to achieve the right ends. Dirty means to achieve clean ends. The same determination that led him to kill Twice and Jeanist.
You have ending’s declaration. In the worst of times Heroes won’t choose to kill.
You have not only the fact that Best Jeanist is missing, but also that Bakugo wants to tell him his hero name.
We’ve also seen attention drawn to the fact that Best Jeanist is missing. Hawks implicitly looks guilty, when he’s addressing Bakugo, who was training under Best Jeanist.
This is all set up, so it should be paid off. Everything set up in a story should matter later. Otherwise like... what is the point, yeah?
Hawks, Endeavor end the Pro Hero Arc as heroes who proven themselves as the new number one and number two on live television and the Dabi reveal doesn’t happen.
I believe this current arc is going to be the reversal of that. Due to Hawks’ actions, and Hawks’ mistakes, as well as Endeavor’s the two of them as number one and number two hero are going to be blamed for the failure of the raid on live television, and the Dabi reveal may even happen this time around. Hawks’ ultimate conseqeunce for killing both Best Jeanist and Twice is that he won’t get to be a hero anymore, which is the only thing he’s had his entire life, his quirk and his job as a hero. He’s absolutely nobody outside of his role as a hero, which is why in a way it’s a perfect consequence for him.
I have a theory that Hawks' Father will return in the future arc.
Since it was stated that he was arrested. Due to All for One's jailbreak, what if he comes back to go after his son, full anger and indignation.
After seeing his son, the person who kept him bound to his wife and the person he wishes to never been born, he goes after him because of the carefree life of the #2 pro hero he has been living, and probably loathes him since he had all this great stuff that has happened to him, while his father just stayed in prison witnessing his son's success.
Also, I find it really suspicious on how we saw his face but never his name. A characters name is really important as we know who they are and what they do behind it. We know his Mother's name but not his father.
I think it will serve to further characterise him more, and give him growth.

like, I feel like his dad was kinda just a throw away to enhance Hawks’ backstory, I honestly don’t feel like we would see so much character in a throwaway character (if that makes sense)
basically what I’m trying to say is theory is a good one, but in my opinion, I feel like Hawks has moved on in his life, as has the show, so I feel like re-intruding his dad would seem tedious.

This is just me rambling about Hawk’s character because there’s just so much to theorize and talk about. it’s probably way too long and congested so I apologize in advance
In the first arc he’s introduced in, he keeps saying how he has no self control. He says this twice and even shows it at the billboard charts where he starts speaking his thoughts. But later on as the story progresses we see that Hawks has exceptional control of himself, more specifically his emotions and his behavior. He’s so good at hiding his true feelings that it’s the reason the commission chooses him to be a double agent with the league of villains.
It’s likely that Hawks was trained as a child for this sort of espionage activity since he himself says that he was taught negotiation skills at an early age. This is why Endeavor can’t tell when he’s being serious because Hawks always acts jokingly around him. Hawks knows this, which is why he acted so serious when giving Endeavor the coded book to let him know something was off. Some say Hawks is a chaotic neutral, and that definitely fits with how he acted during the billboard awards. However you could say he is actually lawful neutral, and is someone who always gets done what needs to be done. He wanted to support Endeavor as the number one hero and he did whatever was needed to do so. In the same way, whatever the commission wants him to do, he gets done. I think it’s clear that there are two sides to Hawks, or Keigo Takami. The chaotic and easy going hero persona, and the lawful and controlled commission pawn. I personally think that the easy going persona is how hawks really feels or how he wants to be, but after being drilled into what is essentially a child soldier, he can’t shake off what he has been trained into becoming.
One aspect that I find interesting is how baby Keigo says he wants to be like Endeavor, but as an adult he insists that he wants the freedom of the lower ranks and that his “back isn’t wide enough”. I think this is a combination of realizing that the hero world isn’t all what he thought it was (”there are no true heros”) and knowing that as a commission pawn, his role is to work in espionage which isn’t suited to the number 1 hero. His desire that he wants all heroes to “take it easy” and how he wants to be lower in the ranks could be hinting at how he’s actually secretly tired of working for the commission or even being a hero since it’s not what he signed up for (he got roped in when he was like 4 there’s no way he knew what he was signing up for). I think Keigo definitely enjoys being a hero and wanted to be a hero, but baby keigo specifically said “shine brightly”. He wanted to shine brightly like Endeavor but instead he’s being forced to hide in the shadows and constantly lie to be people, which he stated he dislikes doing. He’s not doing the double agent job because he wants to, he’s doing it because he “has no choice” which are is own words. Heroes normally have a choice when it comes to jobs, don’t they? They are free to choose what kind of hero they want to be. But Keigo never had a choice. He owes his life and success to the commission and has been groomed to stay loyal to them. He’s a bird locked in a cage, and he even tells this to twice when asked why he sympathizes with the villains. I don’t think he was lying because the easiest way to lie is when there’s truth mixed in. And Hawks genuinely liked twice.
Now to the recent events in the manga, where things get interesting. Hawks has been getting some heat with what he did to twice but I think this moment is what solidifies all my speculations and everything I said up until this point. Hawks is good at controlling himself. However in these chapters you can see him slowly breaking down. He desperately tries to hide this fact by outright stating things like “I don’t get attached” when dabi calls him out for getting attached right after, and being very forceful and distant when facing twice. I won’t get too much into this scene cause I’ve seen other people do a better job at analyzing it and this is my first time writing about a show, ever, but basically Hawks is having difficulty separating his emotions from his duty. This is the first conflict we see between true easy going hawks and loyal commission hawks. However in the past we haven’t seen much evidence as to how connected or manipulated Hawks is with the commission. For all we know he could have been working for them willingly or quit whenever he wanted to. That all changes with all the bombshells this chapter, including baby hawks, which I talked about in the previous paragraph. With this scene, we have come to realize what the commission really means to hawks. He’s so desperate to keep his loyalty to them that I think he’s behaving rather strangely with twice and not as any other hero would. I think a normal hero would have thought that if they can’t capture him now, they would retreat and ambush them later (considering dabi in close quarters is a horrible match up for hawks and he knows it) but hawks is thinking, “If he doesn’t give up I need to *kill* him.” I don’t think any hero in bnha so far has “killed” a villain or even thought to “kill” a villain (nomus are basically dead already so that doesn't count). It’s always been defeat and capture. I’m sure Hawks could knock him unconscious but he’s desperate and tries to make up for his wavering loyalty by killing twice, the exact opposite of what he truly wants to do. He finally breaks when dabi calls his real name “Keigo Tamaki”, the name the commission forced him to abandon. The reminder of his true self is what caused Hawks to waver so much in loyalty that he went straight for the kill, almost to kill any last remaining chances of letting his emotions take over. This is what I mean when I said this moment is what solidifies my theories on his character. The commission means so much to him, or has manipulated him so much that in order to keep his loyalty to him, he kills someone he thought was a good person. This just shows how deep the brainwashing has gone to Hawks. Why is he so desperate to keep his alignment with the commission? Because he has no identity outside of them. They have guided and controlled him his entire life and as much as he wants to be free, he’s been trained to never betray them. He’s a man that does whatever it takes to get things done and in that moment he thought he had to stop twice, stop his wavering loyalty, stop his questioning of heros.
tldr; Hawks wanted to be a hero that shines brightly but the commission forced him to become the opposite, making him see hero society for what it really is, a corporate industry for money and fame. He seemingly accepts this, seeing how he talked about the importance of popularity at the billboard awards, but Endeavor still holds a sentimental place in his heart as a great hero that shines brightly. This explains why he doesn’t like all might, he sees him as a “too perfect” hero, almost too good to be true, while endeavor breaks down barriers, even when it’s impossible. Also Hawks has a bias against Endeavor because he saved him as a kid.
Well this got off track real fast, *real tldr;*: Hawks has two sides to him which worked together, as easy going hawks just accepted his own situation, and the fact that he’s a pawn for the commission. The commission are the good guys so he doesn’t really care that they control him. He’s just that selfless of a guy. However after having to betray people he likes, his morality and sense of loyalty wavers and in the end his commission self overwrites what he truly wanted to do.
This is important because the commission self needs to be established as the one controlling Hawks before his character can get broken down and get development, and in the end his true self can prevail and he can be free.
I have always got the feeling that Hawks is a selfless person. He got roped into being the kind of hero he didn't want to be but accepts it because he knows the heros are the good guys and in the end he's helping people. It doesn't matter that he's not where he truly wants to be. He's been so brainwashed by the commission that he believes his own feelings don't matter either.
I’m looking forward to how the story goes but I almost don’t want to get my expectations too high in case things go nothing the way I expect. It’s going to be torture waiting for season 5 to come out. Even the weekly chapters are starting to be torture lol
