Perhaps it is because I have gotten so sick of Puritan culture in general, as of late, what with the anti ‘community’ ramping up and everyone everywhere wanting to censor everything, but especially queer media, but the second anyone says anything negative about Heated Rivalry in regards to the sex scenes, I stop listening. You have no valid viewpoint or argument once you take up that rhetoric. I’m not sorry. ‘The sex scenes add nothing to the story and there is no plot’. It’s a fucking romance novel adaptation! These boys catching feelings through their ‘meaningless’ hookups is the fucking plot! It’s not about fighting dragons and the hockey is a backdrop, a setting. Like you all are killing me, here. The sex scenes show vulnerability, and how Shane and Ilya act together, how they get to know each other. Ilya has this asshole persona on the outside and we see how sweet and attentive he is in bed, constantly checking in with Shane, and Shane displays how nervous he is to show his feelings for Ilya, but in the throes of passion, he can no longer hide. Like I get it if you are not big on sex scenes or it is just not personally your thing. That’s fine. Not everyone is the same, but to say it’s inherently bad to show sex scenes at all, or display romance through sex (also notice how this doesn’t happen with het romance? Like, 50 Shades and the like, yes, but that’s a completely different type of thing) is straight up homophobia. And no, it doesn’t matter if you are also queer and think this way. It’s still the same shit. People are gay. Gay people have sex (not all, obviously. And I specify that because this is the piss on the poor website and you infants can’t handle shit unless you are getting your hands held) but people have sex. People fall in love while having sex. You are not morally superior because you are anti. You’re annoying. If sexually explicit gay romance isn’t your thing, great. Cool. Find something else to watch. I don’t know what else to tell you all, but this is how the book was written, and the show is a rather faithful adaptation from what I have seen, so grow up and deal. I already had to deal with this shit in the Fellow Travelers fandom (also if I see one more person call Hawktim ‘borderline rape’ I am going to stab someone, but that’s a whole other topic). Point being, get a fucking grip and accept that certain shows may not be for you and that is okay. People don’t have to cater to your frigidness, just because you feel the need to make your personal preferences everyone else’s problem.
