Voltron: Legendary Defender S01E05 - Tears of the Balmera
part 5.31 of 5.54
<- part 5.30 | masterpost | part 5.32 ->
Do you have any head canons for shiro's childhood and his family?
Hello anon! Thank you for this question.
Since the beginning of the show I’ve always imagined Shiro to be the oldest sibling in his family. Although we haven’t seen them at all, I could imagine them all wanting to be a pilot like their older brother (and not be abducted by aliens, that is).
1. Shiro learned to be a leader from a young age.
Shiro is the perfect leader of Voltron. He can effectively give orders, set an example, and knows how to calm down everyone when things aren’t going to well . Shiro has even pushed his own feelings, thoughts, or desires aside when its time to get focused. Judging from his leadership skills, I’m sure he had to behave the same way in his household. At a young age especially for those that are the oldest sibling, you learn from a young age of leadership, what you can do to help your parents out, and these skills are perfected as time goes on.
2. He is very disciplined.
In order to be a great leader, you have to be disciplined. This means to complete daily tasks on time and do so until the end of time. If you have to complete homework by 7PM, it needs to be done by then. I don’t see his parents being more strict than the average parent but I do see them reminding him of the importance of setting an example.
3. His mom or dad had some sort of military experience.
Sometimes children like to follow in the steps of their parents. Most people I know have joined the military because their parents are vets. Shiro joined the Galaxy Garrison because it is a form of military duty but instead of being deployed at another country you’ll be deployed somewhere in space. He viewed that opportunity as a way to serve and gain new experiences. It is safe that Shiro can be recognized as a veteran of some sort.
4. He respects elders.
This is obvious; everyone should be doing this unless the geezers are extremely rude. Although Iverson strapped him to a table not listening to a word he was saying, he didn’t say anything rude or bad to him when he it was warranted. His parents emphasized this aspect.
Overall, I think Shiro got his seriousness and excellent leadership skills from his parents. I imagine his parent(s) have served in the military and have someone strict rules while he and his siblings were growing up. He learned this quickly and helped shape his siblings. This way of living rubbed off on him and his shaped it into a respectable young adult with disciplined. Somewhat following in his parents footsteps, he joined the Galaxy Garrison to defend the country and even learned more about the hidden universe.
You can ask more, anon. Thank you for the question!
