Reason:

They are forced to work together and can barely tolerate each other. In the books Haymitch wouldn't have pissed on Effie if she was on fire, and she never really got to the point of thinking child murder was wrong, except where it personally made her sad. However, in the movies they had a certain belligerent UST vibe and reluctant frenemies dynamic and she probably redeemed herself just enough to warrant a hatefuck.

just a silly little headcanon:

a few months after haymitch, katniss and peeta go back to 12, effie realizes she’s no longer happy in the capitol so she goes to 12 to move in with haymitch. it would take her awhile to adjust to living there, but she would slowly get used to it. effie’s style would change to something less capitol-y and i imagine she’d wear dresses inspired by older dress designs (like the 50s-60s maybe) with pretty colors and patterns on them. she would also tone down her makeup to be more natural looking but she would definitely add a pop of color. Her blonde hair would have streaks of white in it after she stopped dying it, and she would wear in fancy braids, buns, curl it, ect…Her skin would become freckled after being outside with haymitch and the geese, (which she hated at first, but they made haymitch happy so that was all that mattered.) She would start to find happiness in the little things, like watching the sunrise on the front porch with haymitch after a night of not being able to sleep, or having lunch out by the lake with katniss and peeta, and then pretending to be mad at haymitch when he throws her in the water. She found herself again with them. Because they were a team. They were a family.

Suddenly there is Everlark and Hayfie all over my dash and now my brain is running so wild.

Now I want to write a time travel fix it(yeah, no surprise there, I know lmao) where a bunch of them wake up in the past and Katniss and Peeta still go into the 74th Games because they know they can make it out. But while they're doing that, everyone else outside with their memories teams up and they manage to kickstart the rebellion early and crash the 74th games instead of the 75th. So a bunch of the District 13 stuff happens wayyyy earlier and it sparks even more chaos and rebellion. Oh, and Rue lives, so does Cinna. And a few others!
