ExxonMobil’s new plastics recycling plant, one of the largest in North America, has been criticized by environmental advocates for generating hazardous pollutants and diverting attention from reducing plastics production. The company’s pyrolysis plastics technology is inefficient and worse for the environment than mechanical recycling.
