There was this quote from the old tv show Hazel (1961-1966) about giving a man a pickle jar if you want to make him feel masculine. I could've sworn I'd posted it to on one of my other blogs. Apparently I didn't and now I can't find it anywhere. Bummer, man.
Hazel Burke at the Met Gala
This is cute, but not really on theme? If you took her headpiece off, she's just a girl wearing a white dress. Is there something I'm missing? This is one of those cases of..beautiful look, but not on theme.

My mom’s always been a huge fan of old movies and TV shows (more so with movies). She was born in 1956, so it makes sense. A few months ago, she found a local channel called MEtv (Memorable Entertainment television) that airs an old sitcom called Hazel that she watched as a kid on weekdays from 11am to noon. It’s sort of become our thing to sit down and watch it together in the morning.
People talk about the need for more strong female characters who break stereotypes in movies and TV, particularly in kids’ programming. While it is true that strong, defined female characters, they seem to gloss over the ones that already exist and did exist in times that we readily associate with sexism and strictly enforced stereotypes. Hazel Burke is an amazing example of one of these characters. Hazel is a live-in maid for the prominent Baxter family, which consists of George Baxter (an attorney), his wife Dorothy (interior decorator), and their son Harold. Hazel does the typical things you’d expect of a maid, such as cooking and cleaning, but she’s so much more than that. She’s a bowling champion, she coaches Harold’s football team, and she’s won over potential clients of George time and time again, despite his insistence that she stay out of his business. Hell, this woman has even helped a panicked man run his restaurant while his wife was upstairs giving birth (Hazel had rounded up a few people to take care of that). Don’t even get me started on the time she managed to gather up enough long underwear to keep a heard of sheep warm during a particularly nasty winter (that episode was a doozy, as Hazel would say). tl;dr: Hazel Burke is an amazing character who can literally do anything.
My word, Hazel got to do so many things and get away with everything, and I just think that's swell.
