There's been a huge boom in interest in this book since the movie came out, but something the movie neglects to show is the scene where the main character is informed of 2 background characters' sexual relationship and he reacts with bafflement and embarrassment.

The best part of the book is the non-romantic relationship between the two main characters. It's every bit as powerful and impactful as a romantic relationship, and it affects the characters just as profoundly, yet it is most definitely not romantic. At no point do the characters refer to each other as romantic partners. They do however, call each other friends, and they do become very close according to one character's culture. But it never has the feeling of being romantic.

The Beauty of the House is immeasurable; its Kindess infinite.

Oh if you HAVEN'T read this book yet you are missing out So. Much. It's about Piranesi, who lives in the House. He lives to explore the House, filled with little but endless rooms, statues, waves and clouds. I think about it very regularly, it is so beautiful and lonely and grand and frightening and surreal and comforting.

It’s gorgeous! A man lives alone in an infinite House over an equally infinite ocean, and the book is slowly unravelling the mystery of what’s going on here. The mystery is well-done, the imagery is vivid, the beauty of the House is immeasurable, its kindness infinite.
