Exactly, the announcement of Harry's deal wasn't any less professional or legitimate than Liam's, there's a different strategy in play. HDD was teasing info about Harry for months, and that's not a tabloid only of interest to fans, this is an industry trade. And when billboard broke the story, there was a ton of coverage because Harry is a name that gets a lot of mileage. And Harry being quiet doesnt mean there isn't plenty happening behind the scenes, I'm excited to see how it plays out!

The story was actually seeded and broken in a pretty standard way. It’s just that because a lot of the Larries/fans don’t really follow music or music news outside 1D, they only see or notice the news that is packaged and announced in the way Liam’s announcement was made. They don’t understand that 50% of the time these official announcements are not made, but are just reported in the trade press and then clarified later when the artist’s promo schedule is in full swing.

There was no real marketing need for Harry to announce his huge deal with Columbia at that point in time. What would it have gained? He’d secured the big money deal, so he didn’t need to drive hype in the industry. He has no music to promote. He was working on an A list movie. So what would have been the point? He’s got lots of time!

In my job we release press releases to trade (film/tv) press all the time and we constantly ask ourselves, “What are we achieving with this? What is the point? Would it be better to wait until we have our air date, or the director is attached, or we can announce such-and-such a partner, and then go BIG with the press release? We know it’ll pick up some buzz in the meantime anyway”. The marketeers approach this kind of PR strategically. The last thing they want to do is be seen to release a press release every time someone farts! :)

ANON 2: I think it will be very interesting to see how Harry’s career takes shape and how he and Jeff choose to roll out the different areas of it (film acting, solo music, ??). I feel like they have really taken the long view of things and they don’t view this as a sprint but a marathon, and they have been putting the building blocks into place for a while, I would venture early 2015 at least if not earlier that they were already thinking towards the next steps. I don’t think anything they do is a whim

Yes I agree, they’ve been planning Harry’s post-1D career for some time, no doubt. And you’re right - he is in this for the long haul. I’m really curious as to whether he has any other film projects lined up or if he will go from Dunkirk straight into completing and releasing an album. Is he waiting to prove himself on Dunkirk before pursuing other acting work? God it’s so exciting. I love the fact that I don’t have a clue what Harry’s strategy is beyond the obvious milestones!
