I think im making it canon that despite the serum getting rid of a lot of Steve's disabilities---he still has allergies and a compromised immune system. He's more likely to get sick than your even your non-super soldier civilian. And he's less capable of fending serious illnesses off

Question: Has anyone brought up the idea of Joyce teaching Steve how to knit?

Cause hear me out: Steve spends the night at the Byers’ sometimes when he just can’t stomach being in that big, empty house of his. He doesn’t sleep all that well at the Byers’ house, though - feels too anxious, has nightmares, what have you. Joyce doesn’t really get much sleep these days either, feeling like she’s got to check on Will every hour or so just to make sure he’s still safe and sound in his bed. So she spends a lot of nights sitting on the couch and knitting.

One of the first nights Steve stays over he has a nightmare and ends up sat next to her on the couch, watching late night TV while she knits. But he’s too antsy just sitting there, and the three mugs of coffee he’s downed aren’t exactly helping. Joyce notices and offers to teach him how to knit, to give him something to do. He scoffs at first - Knitting is for girls - But Joyce just rolls her eyes at him and convinces him to try it anyway. It takes him a little while to get the hang of it, but once he does - it’s his new favorite thing.

Bonus thought: Steve knitting scarves and mittens for all of his newly adopted kiddos.

-steve has worn men’s clothing since he was a kid. he was always flat-chested&scrawny&short and sickly looking---with a short haircut and suspenders, even in college, he was mistaken for a much younger cis boy rather than a young trans man. he would train his voice in secret as a child, where his penchant for speeches began. the people on his block in brooklyn were more accepting than you’d think. his mother’s friends still misgendered him, which made the funeral even harder... but the other kids never looked at him twice besides bucky, because they thought he wouldn’t be any good to play with anyway. 

by the time he got to college he was living entirely as a man and bucky would finish the fights steve started where anybody looked at him funny or dared to try to say something to start shit. a part of the reason he was not able to enlist was his status as trans---but they saw something valuable & easy to capitalize on in steve in his willingness to fight & change. the super soldier serum acts as the ultimate hrt treatment, and he popped out the other side looking like the steve rogers we all know and love. despite his status as trans being capitalized on to indoctrinate him into the symbol of the mythos of america---history has since buried the evidence of his transition to fit reagan-american ideas of masculinity & heterosexuality.

steve isn’t the type to attend pride parades, he doesn’t like parades in general due to the miss america-esque ness of his title & many appearances when he feels like he’s seen and done too much to be anything more or less than a soldier&a fighter, not a paegant ambassador-----but he’s sort of mad that he wasn’t able to be there for the struggle for lgbt rights in all honesty. not that he had the time, but. would’ve been nice to have been able to help more, and now like so many lgbt people the terminology is so far beyond him it’s all that he can do to follow lgbt teens who tag him on twitter and google whatever the hell they’re talking about. he feels like life has kind of passed him by in yet another way.

Steve Rogers, a biography.

Full name: Estevão Rogers. Date of birth: September 18, 1920. Age: Physically, 28. Actually, 103. Gender identity: Cisgender male, uses he/him pronouns. Sexual identity: Bisexual, closeted. Hometown: Brooklyn, New York. Aliases: Steve, Captain America. Family: Joseph Rogers (father), Sara Rogers née Fernandes (mother). Occupation: Superhero.

Steve was born in Brooklyn, New York City, to immigrants Joseph, of Galway, Ireland, and Sara, of Fortaleza, Brazil. As a young child, he was rather frail and the effects of the great depression did nothing to help him in getting stronger. His family first experienced tragedy when his father died when Steve was just five years old — leaving him and his mother to fend for themselves. By the time Steve was 17, his mother had passed away too. This forced him to grow up early, and he threw himself into the workforce.

When the United States entered World War 2, he wanted nothing more than to join the military and serve his country. However, his weak state made him get denied four times. His dedication caught the attention of one of the higher ups, which gave him the opportunity to be part of Project Rebirth. This would change Steve's life.

With Project Rebirth came the complete and total transformation of Steve Rogers — for the first time in his whole life, he wasn't frail or weak. He was strong. He was perfect. Almost immediately, he was sent into training and then out on a variety of missions. During this time, he would also meet his best friend, Bucky Barnes.

He was first made aware to the public after he was sent to investigate two men assumed to be Axis spies. From there, he was tasked with greater and greater missions until he came face to face with a man known as Red Skull. His missions for the next four years revolved around stopping him and his allies. Everything finally came to a head on April 19th, 1945, when after defeating Red Skull, Bucky and Steve boarded a plane to disarm a bomb but failed to do so, leaving both men assumed dead. Truthfully, Steve was pulled out of the water, and his rescuers attempted to move him. He escaped, however, and once again landed in the water. This time, however, it was in the northern Atlantic ocean, which resulted in him freezing into a block of ice and remaining hidden among the icebergs in the Arctic circle after drifting there.

He was found again in October of 2017, approximately 72.5 years after he first went down. He was discovered by a group of Arctic researchers, who then contacted the Avengers to let them know about a man living in ice. His introduction back into society was meant to be slow, as not to scare him with how the world had changed since he was last a part of it — but it was not, and resulted in the former Captain America panicking very publicly. With time, he grew accustomed to the new world, and joined the Avengers, taking on the title of Captain America once again.

Various headcanons:

Steve loves to draw. He's very good at it, though he doesn't share it with others often.

He is trilingual — he speaks English and Portuguese, which he learned from both of his parents, and he also speaks Spanish, which he learned after waking up.

Steve loves movies. When he has time, he will binge them.

His hair is naturally curly, but he tends to gel it into place.

Steve doesn't swim, if he can avoid it. First it was his pool and Barb, then lover's lake and Vecna. He may be good at it, may have been co-captain of the swim team, but Steve doesn't swim.

If Steve could do anything different, would he? What's his driving motivation to protect despite the countries corrupt nature?

if steve could do anything differently, i do genuinely believe he would go back in time, and help with the founding of shield, help continue to fuck up nazis, never stop fighting for what’s right, never stop fighting against ‘the idea’ of america that can contain any kind of fascism.

i give steve a lot of shit in the comics bc he can come off as a libertarian or a centrist sometimes in the wrong hands, but he’s staunchly anti-government there too. there’s a reason he is against the registration act during civil war, and it makes sense. he believes in a human or a mutant’s right to privacy, self-determination, agency. he talks about how sad he is that he missed the civil rights movement and how much he wishes he could’ve been there, fighting the good fight.

he WOULD go back in time if he could do a genuine stable timeloop (while still fixing everything in the present by fighting the good fight), if it wouldn’t create different timelines, if he could make SURE his relationships and everything he had done ‘in the future’ were exactly the same, because steve believes everything he is, it’s because of everything he experiences, and he wouldn’t change that for the world.

but u can’t? do that? it’s not possible. the PRESENT matters to steve. the PRESENT is what is real to steve. so he won’t change the past---because he knows he’s capable of making mistakes, too. he’ll just do whatever he can, past the point of human limitations, to make things right now.

steve is pro-america in the sense than any child of immigrants is pro-america. irish people & jewish people died (and so many other people not even related to steve...) so that steve could have a home. not a great home, they were poor, steve was sick. they lived in a shitty too-small apartment that probably contributed to steve’s asthma. but a home all the same. america, for all its faults, is home to steve, and he’s not going anywhere, no matter how unjust and terrible it may be.

steve believes america is his house. and he’s not just going to move out of his house bc the foundation is busted. he’s going to uproot the nazis, he’s going to make ammends and connections with the people whose land and labor he is living on, he is going to be the best person he can be with his parents’ and grandparents’ (and everyone else’s parents and grandparents) dream of ‘the melting pot’ and ‘freedom’ fresh in his mind.

it’s overly idealistic, it’s excesively hopeful & perhaps more than a bit naive, more than anything, it’s a lot of work & time & effort to bend backwards to make something so wrong right again---

but that’s what captain america stands for. putting in the work, making the effort, trying harder than it is humanly possible to try.

steve has to believe in that. because it’s everything he is & everything he wants to be.

i lied i’m back to say in the comics bucky regaining control of himself is not as well done. instead of simply remembering things over the course of time, steve basically goes ‘INFINITY CUBE TIME’ and bucky remembers everything.

but do you know what that means? do you?

it means that bucky’s respect love and affection for steve in mcu canon is literally as powerful as the infinity cube. that his returning memories of their bond & their friendship, is as powerful as a cosmic monkey’s paw that will re-write the universe for steve’s mere wish! all steve has to say is his name. his nickname, the nickname steve gave him when they were kids that stuck. all steve has to say is ‘i’m with you ‘til the end of the line’ for years of brainwashing and doubt to melt away into a single answer. it’s always been steve, it’s always been captain america & america, it’s always been the sickly kid that he protected only because he wouldn’t stop fucking fighting with everything inside himself and outside himself he can find (literal trash). it’s always been steve, that believed in him, that believed in the goodness of him.

every time bucky thought he might go wrong---that he might be a jerk, that he might be an asshole, that he wasn’t good enough, that he wasn’t strong enough, that he might be what other people said about him, steve was there! to protect, to love, to validate him into believing that there was something good in him even in the trenches of his depression, self-loathing, and the scary ass shit he pulled during ww2.

protecting steve---being by steve’s side. is so essential to who bucky is that it can pull him out of anything.

and steve’s belief in him is literally as strong as the infinity cube, and it lasts longer, too. that is all!

my steve run-down:

-absolutely okay with cursing, except if it’s gendered. wouldn’t say ‘son of a bitch’ or ‘bitch’ in general for example. would absolutely say ‘fuck’ and ‘goddamn’ and ‘jackass.’ 

-gentle with old people & children & the marginalized. if not overly so to the point of being patronizing, which is one of his greatest flaws. he doesn’t really know how to connect with strangers especially in the 21st century, and is overly reverent of them and everything they have to teach him. he’s a great listener---but he doesn’t have much relevant to say to what he learns, and he knows it. (though he’s desperately sorry he missed so much history. he can’t stop staring at the moon sometimes, thinking about nasa & every man & woman who lost their lives trying to get there---and those are only SOME of the people that he has been unable to stop the america he’s supposed to represent and protect from destroying.)

-every word is intentional. likes the sound of his own voice, but doesn’t want to say a single word he doesn’t mean. he hasn’t been a valuable political pawn since ww2---and everybody who works with him knows it. (when he WAS working with shield, it was bc they had intel on hydra&he needed support. he did not do ‘publicity.’ the things we see in far from home are colorized from the 40s.)

-when he jokes---it’s the quiet kind, the sarcastic kind, the kind that shows understanding and is built to defuse tension & show trust. never actually funny. just friendly or to state boundaries in a slightly rude but still digestable & ‘charming’ way.

-titles are important to steve. you EARN a title. you deserve to have that title recognized, especially if you are in a position of power over him. if steve doesn’t use your title or rank it’s for two reasons---he doesn’t actually respect you OR he respects you more as a person who is his friend than as a person that fulfills an important job in his life. he HATES superhero names. there’s no reason for a codename when your codename is famous. if he’s using your superhero name---it’s to tease you or make fun of you for being self-important enough to give yourself a superhero name.

-has a great awareness over his own strength. as a result, refuses to touch most people out of fear of himself. not to tap you on the shoulder, not to hold your hand. he keeps himself away from humanity. a true artist at heart, he would prefer to observe a beautiful strange and devestating new world, and reflect on it silently thru hard work and dilligent study.
