When Malcolm Reynolds climbed down to his bunk, eager for a good rest, the last thing he expected to see was a child curled up in the corner, knees tucked to her chest. He blinked and opened his mouth to speak, only for no words to leave him. Turning his head, he made a move to call someone, anyone, only to stop when he remembered he was alone on the ship. Curse his crew for spending the night on Persephone instead.

Slowly, he turned his head to look back at the child. How she got on his ship and why she was in his bunk were two mysteries he would have to solve on his own it seemed. 

Mal raised his hands, taking a small step closer to the girl. He crouched after another step or two, and tilted his head. “Kid?”
