⌦ A FROWN GRACED his lips at her denial. Shadow's gaze turned towards the artifact, then back to his sister. A small sigh left him as he shoved his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket, rolling his eyes in annoyance.
"I can take it just fine. I don't think it'll kill me," His last few words trailed off under his breath as he ventured over to her side. He bent over to inspect her booklet of notes she had scribbled out. "What do you think it'll do? Synopsis wise? I know you haven't found a conclusion yet."
It all happened so fast.
Pavel's mind struggles to break through the whirlwind of chaos, grabbing desperately at every last fragment of memory he can grasp in the storm to hastily reconstruct an explanation for what exactly just happened.
That gemstone with the mysterious energy signature—
Blue light so bright and blinding he had to screw his eyes shut as it flooded the room, radiating off that mysterious gem—
Air rushing around him, the feeling of his body being both stretched and compacted at the same time as the ground fell out from beneath his feet, sending him plummeting down—no, flying—across space—
This is not the Enterprise, Pavel notes immediately upon seeing the floor-to-ceiling windows offering a view to an unfamiliar sky.
Groaning, he attempts to take command of the body that feels light-years away, perhaps left back on the Enterprise, to pick himself up off the ground. He cannot wait around to be captured and interrogated or worse. Wherever here is, somewhere in the vast expanse of the universe—there must be something he can latch on to, create a guiding star out of—it is very far from home.
There is no choice; he must get control of himself, he must figure out where he is so he can contact the ship, he must make sure that whoever commands this station knows that he is no enemy.
Moving his arm is a struggle, but once his body and his mind fully resync, the latter once again aware of the physical presence of the former, moving the other three comes easily enough.
Suddenly, a small figure dressed in blue appears down the hall, hurrying towards him, and Pavel blinks, scrambling even faster to drag himself to his full height.
Where is that gem? It will help me prove that I am not here with hostile intentions!
"I—I, ah," Pavel stammers, looking at @hcrwish as she closes the distance, tripping over his own tongue as he tries to explain and explain quickly. "I am not here to try and hurt anybody! I was studying this unknown gemstone we discovered on one of our expeditions and it"—Pavel's hands are clumsy as he punctuates his hasty explanations with wide, albeit shaky, gestures, drawing a circle and quickly pulling his hands apart to simulate the strange flash of unknown light—"I have never seen anything like this before and somehow it transported me here."
Finally, he pauses, if only to catch his breath. "Where—where is here?"
"You're my friend, I couldn't ask for more." (via @hcrwish )

⌦ Crimson eyes cast up to the blonde, admiring her words. Shadow knew not to sit on the hospital bed with her, but he did so anyway, despite Gerald's complaint. His gloved hand was rested underneath her own hand, accepting the comfort given. He cracked a small smile, grateful to have Maria in his life. While in stasis, he could hear the others talk, but one always stuck out to him. A little girl who read to him because she didn't want him to be alone. Being blessed by her was the greatest gift Shadow could ever receive.
"You're my best friend and I thank you," He replied, gently swinging his legs over the edge of the bed.

send “you’re not a monster.” for my muse’s reaction
Shadow wanted to object, but upon meeting her eyes, he found himself immediately neutralized. His anger, his turmoil... all gone in a beat of the heart... The moment he glimpsed those unwavering blue eyes.
"Maria... I..."
He was lost for words. It was impossible to argue with her when she fixed him with that courageous gaze and spoke those words with her entire chest. If Maria didn't believe he was a monster, then it was as simple as that. He wasn't.

⌦ Shoes padded across the tile as Shadow followed behind her. Together, they gazed out towards the world below. Different cloud formations over various regions, the different shapes of the lands being greeted by huge bodies of water, the sun hitting half of the planet. It never ceased to amaze him. He always wondered what it was like to feel the breeze of fresh air hitting him instead of the recirculating air in the ARK. Maybe drive a proper vehicle instead of the carts he ﹙stole﹚ borrowed from the workers, to enjoy time with Maria. Ah, the fun times he had as a younger and more naive hedgehog with her.
⌦ Books, magazines, and photos never did justice. Her words made him nod in agreement. It would be nice to do anything without being babysat and monitored 24/7 by people and cameras.
"Absolutely. The stories I've heard from those who used to live down there make me jealous. Seasons for temperature changes instead of being put on food sound interesting to me," He doesn't really understand some terminology that shares the same name for different words, but he's trying. "What would we do first?"
╳ ┊ @hcrwish : "whatever it is you wish to tell me, it won’t leave this room."
Alright, hmm. Since it had been obvious she could see right through his attempts at trying to pretend nothing was worrying him.. That everything's.. just fine— The young hedgehog had asked to talk with her in private, because it's not something he dared to ask Gerald or any of the scientists. Shadow sighed, the frown on his face very unlike him. Burden is the last thing he wants to be.. but he's also learned from Maria that it's important to be honest to.. friends.
A gloved hand touched the window in front of him, gazing into eternal space filled with stars.. and then at the round ball of water and land. Earth. "... There's a lot of people like you.. But do you think there's anyone like me.. down there? If I'm as unique as they tell me I am, then how am I supposed to help anyone. How am I supposed to know how anyone feels? What if they are scared of me?" He stops himself before he accidentally asks too many questions. There's just a lot on his mind, it's a little overwhelming. Shadow didn't want to let the professor, or anyone else, down.
“I don’t need you micromanaging me.” (gentle teasing? via @hcrwish )
[ x. ]
"Is it really micromanaging if I care about your health and wanting you to take care of yourself?"
⌦ Stubborn. The two of them. They truly are best friends. Shadow approached her side, tapping his foot against the tile flooring. He knew her struggles with her condition. Taking medication was also a difficult task some days. He didn't really take anything himself, except for when Gerald injected him with different experiments, but he eyed Maria and her daily medical routines. Repetitive as it was, he didn't doubt it was exhausting to keep doing the same thing every day.
"I'm not your nurses, Maria. You know I... worry." His gaze lifted to greet her face, still awkward at revealing his emotions. Even if she was his safety person, he didn't want others to witness. It was weak.
