So, let’s look at these two examples. Let’s begin with the 16th gate. The 16th gate is a gate of identification. It’s the secret of understanding the 16th gate. Without identification it is not possible to master logic, because logic essentially is boring. It

is, essentially. The fantasy that can launch logic may be very exciting. But the proving and reproving, and testing and retesting, and practicing and re-practicing, perhaps boredom is not the word, but you get the meaning. They say it better in

French, ennui, it sounds better. It can be a thing.

Identification is the only way that you can overcome that. In other words, you’re in love with music and you’re identified enough with the glories of what you assume will be your great career that you practice day after day after day even though some of it

is really tedious, painful and whatever the case may be. The identification is what does the job.

So, here is somebody who doesn’t have their own consistent identification. They don’t know what to identify with, they don’t. The classic description of the open 16th gate if you have the 48 is that you’re looking for skills. Obviously, there is a truth

for that. But understand what the mind is going to pick at, the bone the mind is going to chew on. It’s going to chew on that 16 and it’s going to chew on identification. So, the mind is going to say, “Look, we need to be identified. If we’re not identified it’s not going to work. We really have to be turned on, we really got to

be…” the mind is going to rule that.

Obviously, that’s not what this person is about. This person is here to bring depth to somebody else who’s identified. And it’s the wisdom to understand what identification really means. What it means to turn people on; because if you turn them on, this is a very material design in many ways, boy can you do well.

So, you have the 16, identification. Whenever there is something in front of this person it’s always going to be there. They’ve got an open emotional system, avoid confrontation. “Am I identified enough with this to really confront this person?” Identification is everywhere in what the mind will touch, because it’s one of the

frames. It’s something that’s missing. It’s something that he or she doesn’t have.

This gate is also associated with Scorpio/ Plutonian energy. It’s raw POWER. Scripting, automatic writing, drawing sigils, and writing petitions in pencil can be very effective, especially if you already have that gate activated in your chart.

So what we have today (April 13, 1999) is a third line day, the Sun in 42.3 and the Earth in 32.3. Now a third line day is the most dangerous day of the Rave week, and it’s the most dangerous day of the Rave week because this is when things bump into each other. Now bumping into each other can be very pleasant, and bumping into each other can be very painful. But the fact of the matter is that the principle of trial and error is that something bumps into you and you see what happens out of that.

One of the things to recognize, as well, as that, the first, second, and third line days, particularly second and third line days, are much more of an advantage to Generators and Projectors. It tends to bring out opportunities of responding

either being called to respond or bumping into something and being forced to respond. It’s much easier for Manifestors or Manifesting Generators, for that matter, when the week gets into its transpersonal phase, when it reaches the 4th, 5th, or 6th lines.

So the energy for us in our process here today is to recognize that this is a day where things bump into you. It’s a day

when you can be shocked. It’s a day when you can be hurt. I was sitting in Los Angeles while I was on tour and I don’t know what it was, I think it was the 36.3. I looked at that and I said to my hostess who was going someplace, “You really shouldn’t go driving today. This is a day for car accidents. This is a day where crisis just bangs into you.”

And of course that morning or evening, this train crash took place where, I don’t know, 20 or 25 people died. The third line brings impact. So it’s one of those things that the moment you see a third line theme, that’s the day of the Rave week you pay attention. It’s important because there are things that are going to bump into you and it’s very important for you to recognize that those are the opportunities of the day when things bump into you.

If you’re dealing with the 42.3 as a solar theme, what do you think that means? What you’re dealing with is completion bumps into you. In other words, you’re not looking for completion. You’re not looking to complete something, but all of a sudden it’s in your face and it brings completion. It bumps into you. That may happen to some, may not happen to others.

Remember, the nature of a transit is that if this is going to bring about a definition in your Design, it’s obviously going to have that impact. But it doesn’t necessarily mean that everybody is going to have that happen to them. That’s the whole thing about being unique aspects within a general program, that the general program establishes all the possible conditions of the programming. However, each and every one of us, in our uniqueness, filters the program specifically, which means some things do not affect us while other things do.

This is one of the reasons why the transit work in astrology is so disastrously inaccurate. Because if you have the historical perspective of astrology, to be able to see that nature of aspects—which is one of the things that astrology is brilliant at—and you know that somebody has their Sun and they have Neptune going over their Sun, now, of course the astrologer’s going to have a specific description for that based on the aspect.

But once you understand the nature of Design, you can see that that Sun may be in an undefined center. That Sun may not be active at all unless it’s being conditioned by somebody turning on that center. And that aspect of Neptune over the Sun, though it will carry that value when the center is defined, will not be there when it’s not.

If you’re looking at inner planet transits to try to be a soothsayer, you have to see that if you do not understand the mechanics of Design, most of the time you’re going to be inaccurate. You’re going to have the right information, but you’re not going to be able to bring it out accurately. This is why people in Europe, particularly in homeopathy, were so interested in Human Design.

You see, you can give a homeopathic medicine to somebody but if the Design is not right, if the timing isn’t right, it isn’t going to be effective. And if you give homeopathic medicine to certain people, it has no impact whatsoever. In other words, you have to be able to see the Design itself. The net result of that is the ability for those who are negative in perspective to debunk these things because they’re not consistently accurate.

When you think about the 46th gate, I want you first and foremost look. If you look at the 46th gate and you look at the next seven gates that follow every single one of them is a gate of the splenic system, every single one of them is a gate of primal fear.

If you think that we've had a rough opening eight gates when it comes to duality and if you think of that the Vessel is going to do any good, people really don't get what 46 is. It is the lead hexagram. It is the framer of all fear and all fear is in the body.

Primary fear, survival fear, physical fear, the body, the 46th gate that what protects us, what makes us insecure, the 46th gate, and out of the 46th gate will emerge all the fears of authority, of the death, of failure, of the past, of tomorrow, of inadequacy, layer and layer of primary fears all out of the 46th gate, this nice gate of the Vessel of Love.

I like the 46th gate. I like any gate that talks about good fortune, I think that's nice. Good fortune that may be perceived as a result of serendipity, but derives from effort and dedication. In other words, success has nothing to do with anything other than it may show up while you're working.

The whole thing is that the body keeps functioning and as long as the body keeps functioning there may be a moment that good fortune comes your way. And then again, it might not, but it's just about keeping the body functioning. What is good luck? No choice.

When you look at the 34, what you get to see is that there are three phenomena at work. That is, the 34 to the 57 is a Splenic Generator, Pure Splenic Generator, that the 34 to the 10 is a Generated Self, this Channel of following your Convictions, and then what we've been looking at, the 34 - 20 which is the Manifesting Generating Capacity.

Behind every charismatic being must be a guide. It's one of the most essential things for the 20 - 34 because it is the Pure Manifesting Generating Channel. It's the Archetype of Manifesting Generating. And only when Manifesting Generators submit to guidance, only then, only then can they fulfill their potential. Now, it's one of the most difficult things in the world to get any Individual to accept any kind of guidance in any way. And the thing to recognize about the 20 - 34 is that the guidance isn't the same kind of guidance that every other Generator has to deal with as Response. The 34 - 57 and the 34 - 10 are totally different from the 20 - 34. They're totally different.

The 20 - 34 needs to be spoken to. They actually need to be guided. Now, it doesn't mean that they need Svengalis, you know, but it does mean that they need to be guided, and the only natural guide for the 20 - 34 is the 43 - 23. They are both oppositions in the Wheel, and both of them as oppositions in the Wheel meet together as a Single definition - all in the same circuitry. And it's one of the essential ingredients in understanding the Pure Manifesting Generator that the Pure Manifesting Generator doesn't respond well - needs to be guided.

You know, this is Integration; it's not a circuit. They're not interested in everybody else - couldn't care less about anybody else. The only aspect of the 34 that has any kind of recognition in any way of the other, is the 34 - 10, only because that's part of the Centering Circuit, and it's something that can be of value to any other human being.

But you know, when you're looking at the 34 - 20, it is all about whether or not that Pure Manifesting energy is going to be used properly. The truth is that it's less likely to get a

20 - 34 to wake up than it is just about anything else. In other words, the depth of the manifesting is so deep - it's so deep, and when they meet this knowledge and they hear about the Sacral and so forth and so on, it's very difficult for them to accept that because it's hard to find what is in fact the Sacral Voice.

That 34 is just busy. "I don't have time for that. We don't need that. We can find our outlet." So it's one of those things to understand about the 34, it operates very differently than the other Sacral Gates, and it operates differently because it's under a different burden.

Does Your Voice Come from Your Mind?

Now very few 8-1s ever hear their own voice. You see, we live in our mind trip. Everybody’s in the mind trip. On this recent tour, I did use many different teaching techniques than I usually do, and I did an introduction that was entirely informal. It had nothing to do with teaching people about how Human Design works. I just wanted to shock them because that’s my nature.

I started off by asking them if anybody knows where their voice comes from and of course they don’t. They have no idea where their voice comes from. The assumption is it’s the mind that does all that. That’s the assumption. You ask the average human being, the average 6 billion out there, where their voice comes from and they’ll tell you it comes from their mind, and then they feel very uncomfortable because, of course, it’s not true. It’s just not true. Yes, some people have a voice like me that comes from the mind, but it’s not true for everyone. It’s a matter of your design.

So here when you’re dealing with the definition, when you’re dealing with the 8-1, you’re dealing with a channel that speaks out of the identity. It speaks out of the identity. Now in order for somebody to hear that voice, they have to stop trying to get their mind to speak. And everybody is busy trying to get their mind to speak—everybody is busy trying to get their mind to speak. They’re always writing scripts, they’re always having phantom conversations in their head, they’re always preparing. They’re always trying to get it out the way they think they should get it out.

And then when their time comes, they babble and burble and none of it comes out the way they want and then they’re really upset and they think they have a problem with their mind. And their mind didn’t know anything about it in the first place because it wasn’t supposed to be there. It comes out of their identity, in this case.

The nature of bitterness in the voice is the whole thing that you get to notice about individuals when they can’t explain themselves. There’s this terrible sourness in their voice. They usually tell you that you don’t know anything. Without the recognition, it’s not enough that you’re an 8-1 and you step into

somebody’s aura. And in stepping into their aura, they recognize that you’re ready to make a contribution and they call that out by inviting it. Because, you see, if you’re not ready, if you don’t know how to explain yourself, it isn’t going to help that much.

In other words, yeah, it’s going to be correct and they’ll sort of get a little bit of what you’re trying to get across to them. But that’s one of the deepest focuses for individuals, for them to recognize how important it is to be able to explain themselves. And some of the deepest individual creativity is just explanation. You see, explanation brings mutation. I mutate you. I mutate you by explaining to you how it works. That’s all I’m doing. That’s my job. All individuals are geared to do that—all of them, all of them.

So it’s very important to see that this 8-1, in the nature of its creativity, is really here to mutate through its explanation and mutate through its explanation rather than what it does because it’s a verbal gate. In other words, the primary function of this channel is to be the voice of direction. It’s their role. I’m the voice of direction. This is the direction. Let me empower you with the way.”

And the next criteria to this channel is to keep in mind that it’s individual and therefore it’s melancholic. And you see the only way that an 8-1 is ever going to figure out how to explain itself,—and remember that’s not mental, oh don’t miss the point here. You see, it’s not like you practice in your mind what you’re going to explain. No, no, no, no. It’s about learning how to listen to your identity speak. And the more you learn how to let your identity speak, the wiser and clearer it will become.

One of the things I talk about in my post 2027 lectures about what the next cycle looks like there are 2 relationships that are going to be absolutely essential for us in the next cycle. One is the relationship between Projector and Generator and the other is the relationship between left and right. The cross of planning has made it possible for us to have these kinds of mediums gathered together from different places on the planet. By the time you get 100 years into the next cycle none of that will exist.

Human beings are not going to be organized through the 40-37, we are going to be organized through the 20-34, we are going to have to, to know how to survive we are going to have to navigate on this plane, we are going to have to be able to do all of those things, knowledge resources are going to be limited. Its rightness that provides the tools for not being thrown into a dark age because somebody turns off the lights. It may be a little shmaltzy but it is really nice to think about the right as that light that is always there. You turn off all the lights and you can’t google anymore…

Think about it this way, that if you could, these people that are dreaming about singularity, these people that want to turn people into virtual lives connecting them directly, connecting them to computers. Look if you really want to understand what the right brings to us, if you really want to grasp it, it is here. On the other side we had pattern recognition (tone 3). Pattern recognition is homogenization. Differentiation recognition isn’t (tone 4). It is something totally different. It’s what a postcard is. You go to someplace, Venice and you get gazillions postcards that are going to give you precisely the same image, you are going to see a gondola, or you are going to see a canal. That is very left, he is the focus, here is the thing, this is the place to go to, this is what you have to think about when you see it, you keep on repeating the same thing over and over and over again. That is the image that is frozen in everybody’s head.

But the right is about differentiation recognition, what is different. Not what is the same, what is different. See, that’s this incredible thing that comes with this broad, broad, broad perspective that is there. This receptivity, that is not just simply just gorging itself on the maia experience but it is differentiating as it does that. It really is collecting all of that data and collecting it in a way that it can be accessed, but not by them. Not by them, then it becomes a horror story, then it becomes a painful ordeal…

This is the difference between left and right. Left and right at some mountain top and the left is looking for something to look at. It is looking for something, it never stops looking for something. The right is not looking for anything. It is taking it in. and you see the dilemma of the right is how guilty they feel that they didn’t focus. They are made to feel guilty for not focusing. And not being able to process the way things are taken in the way in which the left does. And so they suffer.

This is the killer. One of the things that I talk about for a 9-centered being is obviously we are here to differentiate this is the science of differentiation. Differentiation recognition is absolutely essential for us. And yet if you see rightness as something that is overwhelmed by historical leftness that instead of differentiation we get this imposition of homogenization on our consciousness. Not being allowed to see the difference. And not going to have those forces that are going to take it out instead of having those forces telling you what you should see…

This is the great promise that is there in us as 9-centered beings, that we do not have to deal in clichés, postcards, homogenized crap that we don’t all have to be fit into that cubbyhole, that that’s not what we are all about. That the experience of looking out at the world is not about having a focus, and a strategy, and a focus. There is always this other, the richness of it, the depth of it. Because of course this is what is beautiful there is all this depth that is there. It is what is so intriguing and you know what we’ve gotten to see over the last several hundred years where we have had 9 centered beings in the world is the left institutions trying to deal with right creativity and potential. Because they do think out of the box. And you know they’ve tried to come up with terms for like lateral thinkers, this kind of thing and bla bla bla all this, but it isn’t an understanding of what it is, it is still seen as the anomaly, and yet it is the very basic of the duality of what we are is this rightness that gives us this window on differentiation. Everything is different, nothing is the same.

The left says, “ah, it’s just a snowflake.” The right says, “they are all different.” And again that is a very simple analogy but something to grasp about the right, it is not limited to a single focus. Nor the opinions that arise out of that.

For me the left is always the blind man at the elephant. “oh, it’s a snake man, I know it’s a snake.” That’s the left, and the right says, “back off, it’s going to step on you.” the right sees the whole elephant. This is the difference.

The only difference is that because the left bangs it back and forth and they scream it out, “hey, it’s a snake!” the right doesn’t do that. you have to go up to the right and say, “well what do you think it is? And the right looks at you and says, “it’s an elephant you idiot. Open your eyes, see it all.” It is the other side of the coin. And this is what we are missing. this is what needs to be liberated in our children in our education, programs, this freedom not to be constrained by left dogma. Because the right is so different.

You go into the school and it’s all about homogenization. We are all going to learn about the same thing in the same way. Same thing, same way, no deviation. And it can be the same thing same way and its horrendously bad and I tis the same thing same way and its horrendously good it’s all the same way, it’s all the same thing. It’s not differentiation. Show me a math teacher, puts a formula on the board and expects somebody to get the answer without following their pattern. They don’t like that, they really don’t, it’s even worse if you show them. This is an enormous dilemma.

And it’s not about getting on some kind of political platform and being able to change this because quite frankly that is not going to be the case, it’s about being able to educate children. You educate children and the systems they are part of, I have done that with my own children. I have been very careful with their leftness and rightness to be able to prepare them for the environments around them that they understand to take advantage of as themselves, and not to get caught in those traps.

My eldest son is three parts right and one part left... I always gave him the same advice you have to, the biggest discipline in your life is being present in the classroom because the classroom is going to be very distracting for kids, being present in the classroom and then you never have to study. And he is a tremendous academic student and graduated literally at the top of his class.

And his friends are all studying and cramming all of this, and he is right. And if there hadn’t been anybody there to explain it to him he would have been caught in that trap with all those other children who are right minded who end up having, to try to pretend they are left and not being capable of it, they cannot set the patterns in that way, it doesn’t work for them, and there is nobody there to give them the sense that they are not just simply intelligent, they carry this extraordinary depth and brilliance within them…

That’s the thing I love about the right mind. You take a 15 year old right minded kid, and you put them in a room with idiots. And they will only display idiot level. They won’t display anything else, think about that because it is spooky. They will naturally flow with whatever level is established. Now take that same 15 year old and put him in some kind of genius school with brilliant kids and…what comes out of that kid then? It is extraordinary and it’s all there…

Intelligence in the left is measurable. Strategic so you can measure it. You’ve got idiot over here you’ve got genius over there whatever that may be..

You can’t measure right intelligence. And over the last 30, 40 years they’ve tried…

There’s no measurement for the right. You can’t measure the right's intelligence. You give me any person that has a right mind and I am comfortable in saying that they can show levels of genius that nobody else has ever seen. Whether they will or not that’s another story because they are going to have that kind of force that is going to have to pull it out of their system…

In life the level of consciousness you have to deal with the right minded being is always bringing you down to the lowest common denominator and it is horrendous because you are helpless in it. and then you have to wonder how you have to spend so much time talking so much bullshit to so many people. You have to come to grips with what it is to be right, begin to see the magic of it....

You are going to be dealing with people that are right minded all kinds of them, they are going to be around half of the population something like that. And you have to understand how uncomfortable they are and how difficult it is to get them out of all of those constructs of personality consciousness the way it works on this plane.

And there’s real magic, particularly in the 62nd gate and in the 56th gate. The 62nd gate is important to us because out of the logical expression of the mind we build the basis of what we call language, which means that if you look into the logical wiring of the mind, that’s where our ingrained grammar is

established.

We know scientifically that grammar exists in the mind

before there are words to be used grammatically. It’s a way in which the mind operates. This is logical. And out of this capacity to be able to organize the pattern, we’re able to create words. And of course the 62nd gate is this metamorphic gate of giving things their names.

An essential aspect of mind is the creation of the Maia, and the Maia becomes the densest when we have the most names available. We now live in a time of more names than have ever existed before. We have the densest Maia we’ve ever had, and they’re all created by 62s like me who give you “personality crystal” and “rave” and “design crystal” and all these funny words. This is the Maia business.
