So Draco decides to boldly go where no one has gone before: to put himself through scrutiny; their friends’ teasing and pranks; unsound romantic advice from a house-elf; wearing pretty clothes; all to try and win Potter’s heart through courtship.

this fic would be nothing (literally—i probably wouldn’t have finished) without @tackytigerfic @shealwaysreads and @maesterchill and their beta work, encouragement, and polite non-acknowledgement of my very dire procrastination issues.
Summary: Harry’s been fighting tooth and nail for any bit of normalcy he can get his hands on. He’s sick of feeling like something’s wrong with him, tired of feeling different. He thinks he’s finally gotten to the root of it, and has settled into a routine that makes him happy. Naturally, that’s when Draco Malfoy walks back into his life and upends it once again. Has Harry bitten off more than he can chew with his former rival?

Excerpt:
Draco’s lips quirk, and Harry can’t look away. “I think I finally understand a little bit of what it’s like to have Potter levels of notoriety; allow me to take this opportunity to wholeheartedly apologize for assuming you were an attention-hound in school.”
That surprises a laugh out of Harry. “Apology accepted, Malfoy—any other regrets you’ve been storing up for just this moment?”
Malfoy’s eyes spark. “I think not,” he says teasingly, lowering his eyelids just a bit. Damn, his eyelashes are long. “You were just as much a prat as I was, when we were boys.”
“Evenly matched, we’ve always been,” Harry says absently, eyes caught on Draco’s fingers as he raises his glass to his lips.
Harry Potter, of all people, knows that life isn’t always fair. And no one gets to be happy all of the time. But surely there’s something more—something better—than a rubbish Ministry job, and a lonely old house, and that feeling that everyone out there is doing a better job of living than Harry is.
Ron nods. “I wondered when you had learned the symbolism of flowers! It makes much more sense now that I know Malfoy had a hand in it. I thought maybe you had just coincidentally picked something suitable.”
Harry must look baffled, because Hermione chimes in. “Queen Anne’s lace, Harry. It means sanctuary, home.”
I got to read this fic one day before the reveals and after all the buzz I expected to finish it feeling either destroyed or disappointed, but neither happened. Don’t get me wrong, I was definitely compromised after experiencing the same emotional wreckage that hit me upon finishing Little Compton Street by @writcraft. I remember struggling to read other fics right away because I was still a bit overwhelmed. But as it happened with LCS, Modern Love not only lives up to, but surpasses the hype. As soon as I finished ch 1, I knew it would become one of my all-time faves. Because while being quietly devastating, this fic is also so cathartic and rewarding. The comfort pays off the angst in a way that leaves you breathless with joy and melancholy once it’s over, but it’s a gentle, warm feeling instead of a haunting one.
First of all, the atmosphere is !!!!! incredibly magical and unique. Tacky crafted it through a sensitive narrative, fabulous settings and mundane experiences that become exceptional because they feature exceptional characters going through exceptional changes. I tend to prefer Draco-centered stories so this Harry POV caught me completely off guard. His voice is a triumph and the slow transition between loneliness, longing and newfound hope resonated deeply inside me. I love that his struggles were explored in depth without overlooking his courage and generosity. The slow burn is one of the most satisfying I’ve ever read - quiet, powerful and bittersweet, it made my heart ache for them. It was a delight to watch Harry fall so irrevocably in love with this fascinating Draco, lover of bright things, gift-picker extraordinaire and devoted friend. They both have lovely voices, and as they explore the Muggle world and navigate their feelings and demons together, we get to witness the most delicious pining, a perfect balance between moments of obliviousness, vulnerability and complications brought by an excellent politics subplot, as a treat.
Modern Love is a moving and generous story, a love letter full of hope to this ship. Among many of my favorite things, I gotta highlight without (much) context: the thrift store! the charming vicar! the shower scene! the A+ soundtrack! Major kudos to the great OC cast and to the glorious, intimate smut that took my breath away. Don’t forget to check the blissful artwork by @creeeee that recreated perfectly the fic’s atmosphere - you can find it and appreciate it here. He really likes the small bar down the road, a place that serves cheap, awful drinks and plays good old classics. It’s always crammed with people talking, laughing or dancing along with the riff of electric guitars.
From the first time he crossed the threshold, Harry thought it was perfect, the right mix of noise and warmth to be alone without feeling alone. Just what he needed.
He couldn’t imagine that someone else was there for the very same reason, looking for a place where the Dark Mark was only a tattoo.
Blame it on the alcohol, on the music or whatever you want, but when Harry’s eyes landed on Draco’s slim figure, swaying on the dancefloor, something warm and inexplicable possessed him.

This whole story was born from a middle of the night idea about Harry naming his child, which I had lingering in my phone notes until Wireless started and I realised I could self-prompt!

Summary:
During Harry’s sixth year, Draco Malfoy joins the Order as a double-agent and continues with his task to get the Death Eaters into the castle as assigned by Voldemort. Draco succeeds with his mission the evening Harry returns from the caves with Dumbledore. The boys reunite on the Astronomy Tower and, with the Death Eater’s arrival, are forced to engage in a fight, driving Harry to come to terms with his feelings about true friendship and romantic love.
When I first heard this haunting song, I just closed my eyes and listened. A snippet of a scene dropped into my mind, powerful and emotional. It was the scene around which I built this story - a reimagining of Dumbledore’s demise on the Astronomy Tower. HBP never sat right with me. I’d rewrite it in its entirety if I could, but this fic is what I have to offer.
This fic is my fest first. It’s completely out of my wheelhouse on a fic-writing boat barely launched, in a brilliant fandom in which I’m just now dipping a toe. This fic is one I loved and hated in the creation, a fic over which I cried, cajoled, laughed and fretted, often into the void and often, so very often, to others whom all deserve medals for their endurance.
And now I can finally claim it as my own.
