hi y’all! gonna try to keep things concise as far as intros go, but i’m glad to be a part of hydrarpg. it’s been a minute since i’ve last rp’d so please bear with me w/ tumblr’s platform. i’m min (he/him, gmt+5, 25+) and this is yang sungjin, better known as stillnight, an award winning soloist & producer. here’s his profile and pleasepleaseplease like so we can plot! ty!

background

born and raised in atlanta, georgia, to immigrants adding to the growing population of korean-americans in the late 90s. sungjin’s dad was an auto electrician and his mom worked to keep the house in order, the kids in line. the oldest of two siblings in a middle class household.

parents were devout christians so that meant sunday service damn near every sunday at 8am. while sungjin grew up dreadfully approaching the service, it was almost his only exposure to live music which became responsible for the career he has now. joined his local youth choir (there’s definitely some predebut videos out there i’m sure) and, well, the rest was history? kinda?

wasn’t particularly popular during his youth, but he had a humble support system among his 3-4 friends growing up. he went on to teach himself the piano and his parents went on to (surprisingly) pay for formal piano lessons. classical lessons didn’t last long until he got his hands on his first synthesizer keyboard he’d been eyeing at his local pawn shop. he spent his teens experimenting with multiple instruments, acquiring beat-making/production softwares and became so engulfed in his hobby that eventually his dad ushered a no-noise policy after 7pm (and 9pm on weekends.. hehe).

after high school, sungjin booked it to his home country for a fresh start, a new environment, etc. he initially was attending inje university majoring in international trade or business, but his music/productions remained top priority. sungjin was active in the underground scene at the time, was leaving his university work on the back burner, and, well, luck must’ve been on his side for a major label to sign him eventually. oh! and if it wasn’t that obvious already—yes he did drop outta college!

stillnight has about ~10+ years of experience being in the game, his projects are flourishing despite some creative blocks here and there. to expand his musical portfolio, he has now been appointed as a freelancing/main producer under ace labs. the possibilities are endless!

that’s basically the gist as of now, but i will happily yap away when it comes to plotting and for any specifics. buuut i do have some more information concerning his career here!

in retrospect: his career is mildly in shambles amongst creative direction and output rn. sungjin is able to experiment with his music for other artists which he feels he can’t do for himself at the fault of his loyal listeners. he’s unable to pull himself out of the kr&b pigeonhole that he dug himself into. so. perhaps progression with ace labs (and hydra in general) can help him out of his artistic rut both as a soloist and a producer. maybe he has to come to terms with abandoning his old self; his older tastes, if a journey so transformative is in his future.

personality

takes himself a lil too seriously at times while being.. unserious.. at the same time? at this point i don’t know what’s his deal but he’s definitely a walking juxtaposition of a guy who’s Highly Sensitive about his work while having a “f*ck it we ball” mentality.

very laidback, works/functions well under pressure, has a genuine “cool” vibe to him that includes being warm, optimistic, and sincere. doesn’t try to be everybody’s best friend, but strives to be on civil terms with most. his effortless “persona” whatever isn’t that different from how he is to those close to him in his personal life. #nonchalant #CoolGuy

has nothing critical to say about others unless when asked, but is definitely hard on himself for no reason most of the time. this likely stems from placing high expectations on nobody but himself.

yeonseok is the type of person who will willingly surrender himself into the great maw of danger. he has a penchant for getting into high stakes situations— not because he's ignorant of the risks or the consequences— but because he legitimately trusts that he'll emerge unscathed ( and he always has ). he's a high roller with a hot streak. fortune's favored son. a young man who believes in the existence of fate, of destiny, of luck, but never in the possibility that any of them could ever cause him harm. uncharitably, and according to those who find his choices asinine, it's an overestimation of the self and an overestimation of others. it's delusions of grandeur, a god complex. but to those who are willing to be swept up in his tide, there might be something about yeonseok's boundless and unwavering faith that........ inspires. the water is warm, and it comforts. when asked why he's thrown away a promising athletic career just to start back at square one, he shrugs with an indifference that seems to return: it's only natural, isn't it. how could they ever expect me to stay?

still, he presents as overly familiar to most. shameless, even. never afraid to approach or ask a question or insert himself into a conversation. yeonseok treats strangers like he's known them for years. he uses nicknames to refer to people he hasn't met yet and continues to use them, even afterwards. he doesn't ask before dropping honorifics. he doesn't care to hear about anyone's past. his humor is dry. his threats are empty. ( 'i'll throw myself into the hangang. i'll pull out all my teeth. i'll fall down an elevator shaft and shatter into a thousand tiny pieces if you don't stop practicing and eat lunch with me right this second.' ) if yeonseok likes someone, he'll put his arm around them. if he really likes someone, he'll call them by their given name. he has an easy gait and an expressive face and a mouth that seems to suggest and suggest again the existence of too many sharp teeth.

BACKSTORY & FACTS

known as a young genius with equally smart parents, jumi's love for music always came second to academics. so much so that her parents organized for her to take her GED, rather than waste time with kids below her level in high school.

being virtually isolated from her peers, jumi spent most of her time with her guitar and her mind -- creating a rift between her and her parents as her passion for music only grew.

through her sociology studies and her late night scrolls, jumi began to realize 2 things: how much she yearned to sing and dance, and just how much she absolutely hated idol culture.

one bachelor degree later, jumi was faced with a choice; go to law school abroad or finally choose to pick herself. her parents cutting off her phone and going no contact was not a foreseen consequence when she chose to audition with HYDRA instead.

now family-less, she has no choice but to succeed (she never intended to do anything else) no matter what -- even if she finds herself cringing and rolling her eyes at all the other trainees as they grow to embody everything she despises. even if she constantly gets in trouble with the trainers for not smiling in the right moments or controlling her expressions. and even if she can't stand her future groupmates -- failure is not an option.

jumi is not a nice girl, per se. unfortunately, when a child buries their head in their books day in and day out, they don't have time to work on their social skills.

one thing about her, she backs down to no one. any snide comment will be addressed immediately -- hence why she tends to have run ins with the higher ups.

jaeyi thinks she was born hungry— and if you get hungry enough, they say, you start eating your own heart. her mom sells gimbap every morning, and her dad's a construction worker. she tries to listen to the lessons they teach her: love's really what's important in their house. but sometimes, jaeyi wants to sacrifice it. it's selfish. she wants to know how it feels to be revered by the other kids, to not be looked at twice for the shabby clothes or the schoolbags that are never new. when jaeyi turns 14, she tells them that she wants to be an idol. they end up selling their bungalow and the three of them move into a condo just so they can afford to send her to an idol academy. they gave up everything for her future, truly. she only feels guilt when she's older. what if this doesn't work out? see, that's not even an option in jaeyi's head. all of that had to be for something. she doesn't care if she gets called desperate or self-centered. she works twice as hard, she is good, and it's evident in the way her body aches after the five training days. as for personality, she's someone who's very laidback on the surface but thinks very intensely about everything under it. it's really contradictory, how she acts vs how she feels. jaeyi's also really kind despite how unconventional she seems, and her blunt way of speaking might make her seem otherwise. if you have a good heart, she’ll want good things for you. that being said she’s incredibly standoffish & won’t be very vocal about this rip :') to really see her, you really have to read between the lines. while jaeyi's incredibly focused on herself as a trainee, she also always keeps in mind that these are the people she might encounter for the next long years of her life. she's incredibly disciplined, it's probably what jumps out about her first, and doesn't take manners lightly D: debut goals: along the lines of meovv / le sserafim regarding her performance style, i think this quote from black swan sums it up pretty nicely: “in four years, every time you dance, i see you obsess over getting each move exactly right, but i never see you lose yourself.” i feel like she has a lot of tenacity, but jaeyi’s a little scared of making a fool of herself on stage and it’s never with a lot of passion.

hello lovelies! nia over here (gmt-5, she/her) and i’m thrilled to be joining hydra with han serin — a bit of a mystery girl with a past she doesn't really talk about, and a quiet kind of intensity that makes people wonder if she hates them (she probably doesn’t… probably). she’s a second-chance trainee, and she’s not exactly here to make friends, but maybe your muse can change her mind? maybe? ♡ here you can find her board and her profile!

✧ born march 28, 2004 in daegu. she’s the only child of a former trot singer + an absent nightclub pianist. her household wasn’t exactly warm — more like a quiet survival story.

✧ debuted once (very briefly) at 17 under a small company. her fancams actually trended, but after a minor scandal that got blown way out of proportion, she was dropped without warning.
