and also bc i think i never explained abt this vaati au and i want to right now so here we go,

so this Vaati is actually from a universe alteration of one of the era’s of twin princes au (which is a big au fic series me and a friend wrote lmao) where basically: vaati and octavo were both horribly isolated and ignored growing up. For Vaati, he could only really learn to manage his pain by redirecting his anger at others, and so he targeted Octavo. However, rather than killing him like he does in main verse, hearing Octavo crying alone was enough to make him question what he’s doing and if he’s gone mad completely in a moment of crushing realization.

So, after talking to his brother and admitting to all of the Bad thoughts, he runs away from home to go live in an underground cave network to isolate himself and prevent himself from acting on his really Bad thoughts.

This actually proves.... fairly effective for him, surprisingly, until about five years passed by. Because it’s around then when he trips and breaks a leg, and his screaming in pain grabs the attention of some people from a nearby village who dig him out of the caves and help fix up his leg.

At this point, he decides to just... take up living in the village. He does meet up with Octavo again, because his brother (now king) was touring through the kingdom and happened to notice him. He never returns to the castle though, he decides to reject that life. So now he’s like, the village mage, local weird magic dude is just kinda there,
