\o/ \o/ \o/ DANCE MASTER POST \o/ \o/ \o/
All hands on deck! Turn on the disco lights!
Thank you team, you and @nettlesandbugs and @squirrelno2 and @fallen-knight all asked about this, you knew I was vibrating for that one hahaha
Dance: do they dance, or want to dance? at parties, or with partners, or onstage? are they good or bad at it? how is their sense of their own physicality?
Qyrhu
Qyrhu likes to move his body, and likes music, so dancing is a great combo he enjoys a lot. He has his issues that restrain him when it’s linked with his public/professional persona, he usually doesn’t feel comfortable there, feels like he has to keep face, like a cantina night on Odessen would not be where he feels free to dance, usually (but some people might be able to lure him out of his reserve). Bars and clubs and streets or private rooms away from all that are fair game though. He’s happy to dance on his own, but he also likes to dance with other people (more often non-coupled, but couple dances have their appeal too). He’s not about an audience really, more that he likes to play off on other dancers' moves, be inspired by them, have fun and connect with them over shared dancing, even if that might only be for the time the dance lasts. He really likes bathing in the energy of a dancing group, those are some good eats! When he was finishing his education on Ziost, he used to ditch his Sith-hopeful peers to go join the regular recruits in some basement rave (might be more of a starwarsy swing-rave lol). Those were almost formative moments, and he remembers them as good times.
Skill-wise he’s doing fine, he has a good sense of his own body, influenced by all the martial art he does, and the rest is intuition and pure enthusiasm. He’s more about freeform dancing instead of choreographed ones or ones with clear step sequences, and picks up new dance styles in that regard quickly. Though I imagine he had to learn some traditional Sith dances as a youth. It was a bit like combat training, but with less pain, so he liked those lessons, though he never really had the opportunity to use them again. Maybe there could be some surprise tango-like dance with someone down the line though… (hm, or maybe Sith dances are more fight simulating, no-touch dances instead of ones with physical contact… that would be extremely cool…).
Faro
Faro has two approaches. On the one hand, she is all about the push and pull of dancing with others, whether it’s a group or one partner. That’s fun to her because it’s just another game again. How to subtly control, how to manipulate. Dancing is another skill to use in her arsenal, and thanks to Intelligence training she has impeccable moves. Those she had to drill because as a youth in the military she really didn’t have the fluidity and confidence or even interest at all, but that changed when she noticed the game in it and that she was improving.
And on the other hand… sometimes when she’s alone, and antsy, and generally unhappy whether she can put her finger on why or not, and she has enough of it, of stewing in that, she’ll just start to move, in some kind of aggressive, erratic dancing, to get out of her head. Sometimes she is swearing along it, too. Sometimes she puts on music, oftentimes there’s none. There’s a lot of stomping and head shaking. It’s her little short-fix calm down dance and she couldn’t say if she feels better after it, but she feels. She acts out on her feelings, and that is something.
There definitely are moments this was witnessed by someone else, someone of her crew, or other people who are close to her, and they’re all like o..kay but she couldn’t care less in that moment. I have a little scene in mind where Raina is just ‘okay we’re doing this I guess’ and dances along and they both dance like crazy people until one of them almost knocks down the processor that was doing some important computing and Faro is like ‘Stop, my data!’ and they are both breathing hard and laughing hysterically.
Tevuuk
Tev isn’t the dancing type. They can tag along, but they won’t stay long, they rather just watch along from the barstool and soak in the atmosphere. More of a bobbing their head or foot along some music type, which they do often when listening to music, but they’re not the one on the dancefloor much, and if they are, it’s just more bobbing. People might be ribbing them about that, but they don't mind and take it with a grin. Hey, all of you beautiful people go and dance your heads off, someone has to do the clapping along, you know? What they do like is when someone is dancing at them and they can just be their spectator or enabler or dance pole or something.
Cir've (inquis)
She’s in her own world when she’s dancing, closes her eyes and moves however it feels right in the moment. She doesn’t give a fuck about how it looks. It looks kinda trance-like and weird, but it’s ok, I think people might fall a little in love with her when they see her dancing like that (or maybe that's just me).
Cyss (consular)
Oh, she got the moves! Probably objectively the best dancer of the bunch (it’s close with Faro, who’s more calculating, and Qyrhu, who’s more easily distracted and a bit less confident). She’s oozing confidence and loves her body and shows that through dancing. She likes to hit the club every now and then (not that she gets many opportunities, but sometimes she’s like: Alright, self-care hedonism time for me tonight) but she is also fascinated by more niche dances, and especially cultural dances from across the galaxy (I wonder, do Trandoshans or Esh-ka have their own dances? They must, right? She would be so interested to see and learn, if that was welcomed). Do Jedi scolars write a thesis? Studying dances would have been one of her absolute dream choices. In any case, war time didn’t let her indulge in studies, and definitely not about something as unusable as dances. Oh well, maybe it’s something for retirement.
Hyo-Ran (knight)
She’s a trained martial artist since a young age, fluid and beautiful to witness in combat, so how. How can someone like that have two left feet when it’s about dancing? She’s terribly self-conscious and that’s her real problem. In contrast to Tev she would actually like to dance. She’s just being complicated (it is definitely not the only thing she’s being complicated about). It’s improving the more she feels better in her own skin, and I don’t really mean the objective dancing skills, but the way she feels free to dance when she wishes to. Her slightly shy but delighted manner will actually look really good on her.
