Better With You
Phil gets a headache and Dan tries to make him feel better.
Although they often slept in the same bed and had fairly similar sleep schedules, once in a while one would stay up later than the other, scrolling through Tumblr or editing a video. Which meant the following day, that person would sleep in later while the other got out of bed and had to be alone for a couple of hours while they waited for the sleeping one to get up.
Today was that day for Phil, Dan assumed, since his boyfriend had yet to get out of bed at 1:00 in the afternoon. He didn’t remember Phil staying up later than him, though he knew his boyfriend was prone to sleepless nights once in a while.
Left by himself that morning, Dan had to eat breakfast by himself, resist the urge to watch another episode of the current anime the two found themselves addicted to, and ponder the meaning of existence with no one there to snap him out of his existential thoughts.
That was, until Phil finally emerged. Dan was sat in his favorite black chair at their dining table, his laptop in front of him and the TV on a volume perfect for background noise. He looked up when he noticed Phil appear; still in his pyjamas, his fringe messy and his glasses tossed loosely on his face.
Before Dan could say anything, he watched as Phil retreated to the couch. Phil curled up on his side of the couch and closed his eyes, pressing his face into the arm of the couch a bit.
“Phil?” Dan finally spoke as he got up from the dining table. “You okay?”
Phil responded with a muffled groan.
“Are you sick?” Dan assumed as he sat down beside Phil.
“Headache.” Phil managed to say, not moving from his current position on the couch.
Now it all made sense. Phil got headaches often enough, but once in a while his boyfriend would get a headache that would defeat him and Dan was certain he hated it more than Phil did.
Dan’s face softened. “So that’s why you didn’t get out of bed today.” he said before gently running his fingers through Phil’s hair and softly massaging his boyfriend’s scalp. That always made Phil feel better.
Dan could feel Phil relax beneath him. “Any better?” he hoped.
“No, it’s a bad one.” Phil mumbled, wincing a bit at the jolting pangs shooting through his head.
Dan frowned. “Did you take anything?”
“No, I just got up.” Phil told him.
“Phil,” Dan whined. “You need to take something or you’ll never feel better.”
“I know, I’m sorry, can you not bitch at me right now?” Phil asked, a slightly annoyed tone in his voice.
Dan’s frown grew. “I’m sorry, I just hate seeing you like this. I’m going to get you some aspirin.” he said before getting up.
“No, don’t, it’s fine.” Phil then said. “Could you just turn the TV off and shut the blinds? It’s too much right now.”
Dan did as he was told and looked back at his boyfriend. “Can I get you aspirin now?”
Phil finally opened his eyes slightly to look at Dan, who was standing on the other side of the room. “I don’t need aspirin, I need you.” he said as he reached for Dan.
“No, you need drugs.” Dan muttered.
“Please?” Phil simply said, still reaching for Dan.
Dan sighed before giving in and sitting back down on the couch. “Come here.” he said as he opened his arms, welcoming his boyfriend into his lap.
Phil rested his head in Dan’s lap and immediately closed his eyes. Dan ran his fingers through Phil’s hair again, adding a little massage every so often.
“How do you feel?” Dan asked minutes later.
“Better, with you.” Phil said.
Dan smiled a little. He knew Phil wasn’t really better, but he was glad he could make him think he was. “I thought I usually gave you headaches.” he said, slightly joking.
“You give me a different kind of headache, Howell.” Phil said, a small smirk on his face while Dan giggled.
“How’s your headache really?” Dan asked.
“It’s not as bad as it was earlier.” Phil told him. “Thank you.”
“You don’t have to thank me, you spork.” Dan said.
“Still.” Phil said before turning his head to look up at his boyfriend. “Rawr.” he said, scrunching his face in the way Dan found absolutely adorable.
“God, way to bring me back to 2009.” Dan said. “I’m glad you’re feeling better.”
“I told you, I’m better with you.” Phil said and Dan smiled shyly.
“Back atcha.” Dan said before placing a kiss to his boyfriend’s forehead.
