A young prodigy of the Life element is shown around a spell-practicing field to give her ideas for her second Attunement
“Water.” Glaverra narrated as she walked down the clear midway of Tanaris Field. “Wind, Ice, Earth. The basic elements other than Life that you could Attune. Each one possesses advantages of their own when it comes to defensive applications.”
“And Fire?” I asked, aiming my chin at a pair of men burning, then quickly dousing a hay sculpture in quick succession.
She shot me a sharp look. “That is not- that’s quite the gruesome element to use if you want to defend yourself.”
“You told me not long ago that there are no clean ways to kill someone.” I pointed out.
Glaverra shrugged. “That may be so, but from what I know of you, you aren’t nearly cruel or hardened enough to kill someone, especially with Fire.”
I gave a somber smile at that. Oh, how much she doesn’t know…
“Fire would be an excellent deterrent if I ever got in trouble…” I murmured.
“Leave it.” Glaverra’s tone clearly left no space for argument. I shut my mouth and followed along. “Water, Ice, Wind, Earth, each one of these can be deadly enough in their own right.”
“Moreover,” She added, stopping to look approvingly at a girl Meldrene’s age straining to cast something into the air. “You can make many, many uses out of them outside of combat.”
Meldrene watched in wonder as the air in front of the girl first visibly misted, liquefied, and then finally froze into glittering pieces of ice that thunked onto the ground. She was panting from the exertion, despite spellcasting not actually being a physically strenuous activity. Her master looked on with an unblinking stare, saying nothing but keeping a spell of wind around her protege all the while; a sound barrier? Meldrene could sense the intricate flows of mana there, but the sensation of wind was not as resonant to her as the life beating inside each and every person here.
