Artist Rant
An important message to everyone who feels like they need to share their opinions, even when it’s unnecessary.
So I’ve come across a comment today which was non-constructive criticism towards my art and basically just rude. I didn’t reply to it, I also don’t plan to but I’ve ranted about it to my online friends because it hurt me. I told them that I try to understand the drive behind this action (commenting something rude to someone’s art) so I won’t be so dramatic about it but I have to be dramatic for a little bit because it’s about my art… I’m an artist. I’m sensitive. On vulnerable days, a rude comment can sound like “I don’t want to see you existing because you shouldn’t”…
On better days, a rude comment can sound like our inner critique which is really difficult to silence already. We don’t need others to make it louder. We need support and encouragement.
When someone shares their art, they share a very important part of themselves and I really admire people who are brave enough to do that because others can make this world awful - and it’s even more true in case of the virtual world. Those are typically not making art or don’t really contribute to anything… they’re just takers.
Artists are givers.
Do takers really have to take our will to create, as well?
I know it that those rude commenters will make me come out of this stronger once I ranted it all out… but I also know that there are artists that are more sensitive than me, with a louder inner critique and maybe they will be so disencouraged that they’ll stop sharing their art… or won’t even begin sharing it in the first place… or maybe that’ll even stop them making art altogether. That’s just devastating.
I will forever be an artist and I will forever be an art supporter. I’ll be the one who tries to encourage you, my creative friend.
It’s really easy for someone to make me like them but it’s also super duper easy to make me change my mind. All it takes is tapping the send button after typing something thoughtless. And if it’s about art, I can transform into something evil and ruthless. Or I just block if I’m tired.
Please don’t be stupid and support art that’s made by humans with emotions! Thank you!
