Sensei Garmadon being so anti militant force in Rebooted is probably my favourite part of Season 3. The love triangle isn't that fun. The character development for Zane and Pixal feels rushed and confusing. eight episodes is not enough time to establish their romance. But Sensei Garmadon and Lloyd pull the season together for me. The Overlord, Pythor and Cryptor help as well. I'm fond of villains, especially when they're funny. I even think the evil R2-D2 rip-off Min-Droid is adorable with his beeps and boops.
But Sensei Garmadon bemoaning violence and trying to preach balance and acceptance...he feels like the best written character in the season. He's been redeemed of his darkness, but he knows he has it still buried deep inside himself. Anyone can be evil under the right circumstances. Garmadon was evil because he was lonely and isolated. He still probably feels some loneliness and lack of understanding from other people. So he's teaching about balance, knowing balance is the only way for things to improve. Light in darkness, darkness in light. War in peace, peace in war.
I feel like Sensei Garmadon is just the easiest character for me to care about. There's some wonderfully written elements to his character. Killing him off ruins the show for me, because nobody is written in such a beautiful way. This villain who isn't really evil, who redeems himself and tries to fix things, only to end up dying as a sacrifice to try and save the world. There's something so beautiful about that. But it's also so depressing that Garmadon can only get through to people by sacrificing himself. He was a reject in life and a hero in death. It's so sad to remember.
