This was him and I at Wednesday's fundraiser event and I bet just by looking at him, you wouldn't be able to tell what he had to go through to even be there. After his parents noticed he wasnt being himself, they took him in for a check up which turned into a CT Scan revealing a large tumor In November of 2018. Life at that moment changed drastically! Two days later he underwent a 7 hour surgery where they removed what they thought was all of the tumor. A week after that he was Diagnosed with grade 3 Ependymoma (only 186 cases per year in the United States). Chemo was too risky due to a lack of data for his age and cancer type so Radiation it was! After 33 rounds of radiation (which affected his left eye and ability to swallow), More surgery, Feeding tubes, a treatment catheter, spending Thanksgiving and his 2nd birthday in the hospital, in Mid March they heard the beautiful words "NED" (NO EVIDENCE OF DISEASE)! As I watched kevin dance to the music and eyes light up with joy as he held Spider-Mans hand, i couldn't help but notice the the smile on his fathers face. To watch your child battle for their life amongst families who lost their children within the same hospital walls you were in is devastating. I was overwhelmed with emotions knowing what they've all been through. Tears of joy filled my eyes because in my heart, he was dancing for every child that can't or never got to. Kevin may be a child but he's a symbol of so much more and so is the strength of his family. Kevin, you're a warrior and inspire us all!
