Life's kept me away but I decided to take a break and read Heart Rot and -- ah! Yes! What a wonderful hurt. How it reminded me of being young and not yet knowing the many things that could be mistaken for availability ("The admission, the casual way he said it") and emotional generosity (“I’ll take care of you,” he said). The stories we told ourselves after we spent time with someone who was only ever going to be vaguely mindful of our presence. What a delight to read you, as always!
