heat damages fears me. but its kinda like a spider situation where I too am scared of heat damage more so than it's scared of me. probably. up to interpretation
2026-01-28. I impulsively cut most of my hair after seeing how damaged my ends still were, even after two years of trying everything to “fix” it. I researched methods, switched shampoos, bought the products, deep conditioned, did protein treatments, tried braid-outs and finger coils, went back to salons that fried my hair (again), and even convinced myself I’d just be a straight natural. Nothing gave me the results I wanted, especially at the ends and front. So I finally did what I’d been avoiding: I cut it. A lot. I cried. I felt ugly. I felt guilty, like everyone was more attached to my hair than I was. But now it dries faster (kind of), feels thicker, and looks healthier. When my mom twisted it and I tried finger coiling again (this time patiently, specifically with music playing just to get into the mood and as a distraction from doing my hair. Trust, it goes quicker when you’re a bit distracted with music.); I realized this is actually what I wanted. I don’t feel 100% pretty yet, but I’m learning to be kinder to myself. The first month is the hardest. If I can get through this, I can get through anything. P.S. The back is nun ya business!!
The summer of 2021-2022 saw absolutely scorching temperatures around the country and record-breaking heatwaves. Perth suffered six days in a row of temperatures above 40-degrees, relentless heat that is tough for us, and for our gardens.
