Came across Haidilao’s (海底捞) Self-Heating Beef Hot Pot - Tomato Flavour (S$8.95) during grocery shoppng and bought one to try. There are quite a few flavours to choose from but NTUC only has a couple to choose from. A detailed step by step guide is provided with the packaging so it is pretty easy to follow.
Add the ingredients and water - There are quite a few packs of pre-packed ingredients which you need to open and empty into the white plastic food bowl. Next, add drinking water to the ingredients, taking note of the max water level. If you are outside, you can use mineral or distilled water.
Add the Heat Pack into the black bowl and top up with water till the level indicated inside the bowl. You have to be quick after adding the water to place the white food bowl into the black container and fastened the lid as the chemical reaction kicks in to start cooking the food. There is a lot of steam being produced through the little hole on the lid but my picture is not able to show you that.
After 15 minutes of waiting, you can pop open the lid and enjoy a bowl of piping hot Glass Noodles (粉丝/冬粉). Since it is tomato based, the soup is tangy with a little spiciness. It does comes with a lot of vegetables like lotus root, black fungus, bamboo shoot and seaweed. But there is actually very little of the cellophane noodles, in fact much lesser than a normal pack of instant noodles. This is really convenient if you are out in the field camping or trekking and you want a hot meal without starting a fire.
