man there ought to be more heathen yule music. basically all the ones i’ve got are a handful of steeleye span songs and a couple nonspecific winter-themed things. i’m not saying traditional carols aren’t pretty, they definitely are and i have a few faves, but this year i’m sorry but my heathen ass just cannot take hearing any more choirs singing about baby jesus, and the pagan versions of carols that do some kind of weird find-and-replace don’t do it for me either because then i’m just spending the whole time thinking about the awkward rewordings and what they’re replacing and then we’re just right back where we started with making me think about baby jesus. (however, oddly, it’s almost worse when it’s not a religious carol to start with. like literally why did you feel a need to change it to walking in a wiccan wonderland please i’m begging you to explain your thought process on that one, and please note that the only even remotely acceptable answer is “it was funny”)

we need more like. really pretty songs about bonfiring some goats and midwinter morris dancing and killing baldr with mistletoe, i guess that’s what i’m saying

I’m trying to decide if I should start taking my professional rune reading sessions online or not. On the one hand, I can definitely get a wider clientele and help more people, but in the other hand doing it over video/call seems very impersonal

Freyja

Perhaps my most surprising relationship with a God has come in the form of Lady Freyja.

Yes, I love cats - but that’s about where our similarities end. I struggle greatly with sexuality, femininity, body-image, and self-love. As the Goddess of Femininity, Beauty, and Sex, I figure that I, as a dysphoric, asexual transman, should feel only isolation and alienation from Her and all that She is. And yet, I feel that I have one of the strongest bonds with Her. I’m never quite sure why, but I know how.

For Her, the emotions I feel are overwhelmingly powerful. We don’t speak in words, like how I communicate with Odin and Frigg. I speak to Her in feeling. When I wind up the cat-shaped music box I dedicated to Her, the music has the power to reduce me to tears. When I think of Her, I feel love and passion, pride and soul, all mixed together with so many powerful emotions I can’t even begin to describe. I know when She’s with me because it would be impossible not to know.

In my most vulnerable moments, I find myself reaching out to Her. Not to Odin for advice, as I normally would, not to Frigg for comfort, Tyr for bravery, or any of the other deities I’m close to - I open my heart to Her alone and I expose my entire soul. She responds, and She gives me endurance and strength. She is more than femininity, beauty, love, sex - She is fearless, persistent, furious, and powerful. She is magic, She is war, She is death, and She is perseverance.

She is raw, untamed emotion, and these are the gifts She gives me. I can say, for certain, that I love Her.

I am curious to hear anyone else’s experiences with Freyja. She has so many sides to her, I’m sure I’m not the only one who experiences this part of Her.

There’s people at my home rn and the Heathen part of me is like “HOSPITALITY!!! BE SOCIAL, GIVE THEM GIFTS, BE GOOD HOST!!!1!” And then the socially anxious part of me is like “hide in your room away from your friends until they leave because you’re too socially worn out to function” so here I am folks being a disappointment to my Gods once again
