Justice is done: Dzhokhar Tsarnaev sentenced to death for Boston Marathon bombing
The survivors of the twin bombings of the Boston Marathon found, to varying degrees, that “justice was done” on Friday when a jury sentenced Dzhokhar Tsarnaev to death.
“He’ll go to hell, that’s where he wanted to go,” responded Michael Ward, a firefighter who was not working the day of the attack that had 3 and 264 injured, 15 April 2013, who came to help the victims.

Abbott: An inspiring commencement speaker
By Mark Wadland
Opinions Editor
Undoubtedly, if anyone knows about strength, perseverance and the ups-and-downs one experiences throughout life, it is Heather Abbott. Her courage and dedication to improving the quality of people’s lives make her an excellent choice to speak at the Class of 2015 undergraduate commencement ceremony.
Ideally, the best commencement speakers talk about the challenges of life and overcoming adversity. As a survivor of the Boston Marathon bombing, who sustained severe injuries to her left leg, Abbott knows as well as anyone that life can present seemingly insurmountable problems.
She made a full recovery and started the Heather Abbott Foundation, which helps amputees receive prosthetic limbs.
Abbott puts the well-being of others before herself, and understands the mentality one must have to overcome any challenges one may face in life.
As a speaker, she cannot tell the graduating class how to avoid dangerous or difficult situations altogether, but she can tell them how to deal with some of these situations positively, and in a way that can help them grow as individuals.
Her dedication toward others can be exemplified by her creation of a foundation - it was not an organization she was forced to create, but rather one she founded because she understands how difficult it can be to lose a limb, and she wants to ease the pain of those who endure that type of injury.
The selection team could not have chosen a more worthy and selfless commencement speaker.
I believe Abbott will share with the graduating class not only stories about her struggles (which will remind students that life does not always pan out as they might expect), but she will also offer a way for students to look at life in a way they had not previously considered, and I hope she can inspire them to move forward with a positive and bright outlook on life.
AWFULLY AWESOME!
Sometimes all it takes to see "awesome" in what we think is "awful", is to stretch a little, let our lives unfold just a bit, step out of our little tight spaces that twist, skew and limit our vision, and see the larger picture.
