Boom!
A Sunday Funday World Turtle Day
This Sunday Funday, May 23, coincides with World Turtle Day! This day was started in 1990 by the nonprofit American Tortoise Rescue in Malibu California, as a way to bring awareness to the care of turtles and tortoises (land-dwelling turtles). One thing I learned about turtles that will change how I act in the future is this emergency care tip: “If a tortoise is crossing a busy street, pick it up and send it in the same direction it was going – if you try to make it go back, it will turn right around again.”
For our contribution in raising turtle awareness we are sharing our copy of Baby Turtle’s Tale by Elle J. McGuinness. Elle J. McGuinness is a pen name for the duo of Lisa McGuinness and Leslie Jonath. This book is the second by Accord Publishing that uses AniMotion designs in the pages to create moving images. The first book, Bee & Me, which we also hold, was printed a year before in 2008 and was also by the duo. This method, created by Jeffrey Charles Cole and Heather Brown, is based on a technique from 1919 but it is the first to incorporate full-color illustrations in the animation. The book is illustrated by Romi Caron, who has won awards with Marilyn Baillie for their animal series from The Animal Behavior Society, The American Association for the Advancement of Science, and The Canadian Children’s Book Centre, for their scientifically accurate animal illustrations.
The video below shows the process of creation for Bee & Me, the same way Baby Turtle’s Tale would have been produced. Both New York Times Bestsellers, Baby Turtle’s Tale and Bee & Me are a part of the Historical Curriculum Collection.
