Hekates altar statue

I hand sculpted and painted this statue for the goddess Hekate for my altar.

I couldn’t find any sculptures that fit my perception of the goddess so I made this one.

The design incorporates the skeleton key, a red snake, a moon and two torches.

HEKATE (Hecate) is the goddess of magic, witchcraft, the night, moon, ghosts and necromancy. She was the only child of the Titanes Perses and Asteria from whom she received her power over heaven, earth, and sea. Hekate assisted Demeter in her search for Persephone, guiding her through the night with flaming torches.

Hecate é uma divindade greco-romana muito cultuada no paganismo moderno. Hoje, dia 13 de agosto, é o dia da celebração da deusa Hecate em círculos pagãos modernos. Hecate é a Senhora do Céu, da Terra e do Mar. Ela carrega as chaves que abrem os portões do Reino de Hades. Ela segura as tochas que iluminam os caminhos. Ela é a Senhora das três vias, das Encruzilhadas e do entre mundos. Ela é aquela que traz os mortos fugidos para o submundo.Ela é aquela que nos protege na escuridão. Ela é a Senhora do conhecimento e consequentemente da magia. Seu poder transcende o mundo material, sendo aquela que nos protege, nos guia, nos abençoa. Seu culto originou-se provavelmente na antiga Anatólia e se espalhou pelo mundo greco-romano, sendo muito cultuada, inclusive por Zeus, que prestava honras a ela. Por conta do patriarcado tornou-se uma divindade do submundo, anciã, sombria e temida. Mas em seu culto original, Hecate era uma mulher jovem de grande beleza e sabedoria, a Senhora dos três mundos. Para celebrá-la ilumine seu altar, agendadas tochas e incensos, faça suas oferendas, cante e dance, medite e se encontre com Ela.
