Inktober 2023 Day-22 HECATONCHEIRES, THE HUNDRED ARMED GIANT

Another lesser known figure of Greek myth, the Hecatoncheires were multi armed giants that were offspring of the Uranus and Gaia. Though some myths have them having multiple heads, minds has only one, but still, is none the less intimidating!!

Briareos was one of the Hecatoncheires, three primordial hundred-handed, fifty-headed storm giants. He was more specifically a god of sea-storms and in this guise he was often named Aigaion (Of the Aegean). Briareos wed Poseidon's daughter Kymopoleia and dwelt with her in the depths of the sea. His two brothers, on the other hand, were appointed guardians of the gates of the storm-pit Tartaros.

The bloody violent conflict is known to historians as the TITANOMACHY. While most of the details of this ten-year war may be lost to us, we do know that the heat and fury, the explosive power and colossal energy released by the battling Titans, gods and monsters caused mountains to bellow fire and the ground itself to quake and crack.

In the final decisive battle the pitiless ferocity of the Hecatonchires combined quite marvelously with the wild electric power of the Cyclopes whose names were Brightness, Lightning and Thunder: Arges, Steropes and Brontes. These gifted craftsmen hammered their mastery of storms into thunderbolts for Zeus to use as weapons, which he learned to fling with pinpoint accuracy at his enemies, blasting them to atoms. Under his directions the Hecatonchires picked up and hurled rocks at furious speed, while the Cyclopes harried and dazzled the enemy with lightning shows and terrifying peals of thunder. Bludgeoned and battered Titans called for ceasefire.

This is undoubtedly the most autistic thing I've done today. God, I love hearing Stephen Fry saying 'hecatonchires.' I just spent about an hour an a half extracting each time he says it from the audiobook and putting them together in their own file.
