Kymopoleia 🌊🖤🌧

Kymopoleia (etym: Raging Waves) is the giant Goddess of Storm Waves, she is the wife of Briareos, and mother of Oiolyka. 💙

Kymopoleia is the daughter of King Poseidon and Queen Amphitrite of the Sea, making her the full sister of Triton and Benthesikyme. 👑

Kymopoleia assists her mother in soothing the sea, stilling the waves and hushing the wind. 🤍

"[the Nereid] Kymodoke who, with Kymatolege and Amphitrite, light of foot, on the misty face of the open water easily stills the waves and hushes the winds in their blowing."

Note: Kymopoleia's name isn't mentioned but it is theorised that Kymatolege ('Wave Stiller') is Kymopoleia, as the source doesn't explicitly state that Kymatolege is a Nereid.

She is married to Briareos, the Hekatonkheir or hundred-handed storm giant and primordial son of the Sky and Earth. Briareos specifically held domain over storms at sea, and was known as 'Aigaion' ('of the Aegean') by the mortals. 🌧

"Briareos, being goodly, the deep-roaring Earth-Shaker [Poseidon] made his son-in-law, giving him Kymopoleia, his daughter to wed."

With Briareos, Kymopoleia had a daughter, Oiolyka, the Sea Nymph of storm-generated wave surges, similar to her mother. 🌊

Kymopoleia is giant-sized; her form is like water, ever changing. She is this size to match her husband, Briareos. 🌧🖐🏾🤍

Kymopoleia's husband think she's too good for him, his whole life he believed he was too hedious to love. She healed him. ❤️🥺

Kymopoleia lives in the darker depths of the sea, with her husband and daughter. 🖤🏛

The Hekatonkheires [Greek mythology]

The Hekatonkheires, or Hecatoncheires, were three creatures from Greek mythology. They were giants with a hundred arms and fifty heads each, hence the name which translates to ‘hundred-handed ones’. In Latin, they were called Centimani. These monstrous beings were the first offspring of Uranus and Gaia, preceding the titans and cyclopes. Their names were Cottus, Gyges and Briareus, though Briareus was claimed to be called Aegaeon by humans, according to Homeros’ Illiad. The Hekatonkheires were said to have immense physical strength, but they were also hideous to look at, as one can imagine from a monster with 50 heads. Uranus was terrified at the sight of his three monstrous children and locked them up in Tartarus, where they remained until the gods freed them to ask for their help in overthrowing the titans.

As such, they were a force to be reckoned with as they waged war with the gods against the titans. After overthrowing their enemies by hurling colossal boulders at them with their hundred arms, the titans were imprisoned in the underworld, behind a bronze gate built by Poseidon. The three Hekatonkheires stayed behind to guard the prisoners, and they remain there to this day.

Meet Exi

Exi is a new OC of mine, a Gegennes in an urban fantasy world who recently had to fight tooth and nail to break the masquerade and expose magic to the world. Whether revolutionary, terrorist or freedom fighter is up for interpretation, but she wants to help magical beings live openly with humans.

She herself is a Gegennes, a breed of half giants descended from Hekatonkheires, the Hundred Handed ones, and stands at six foot ten at twenty eight, though they do grow slowly for another twenty years. So all in all she’s pretty young to lose a hand, and very young to be appointed Director of a magical being camp. But she’s damn passionate and honest to a fault.
