I cast Gifts Ungiven to grab Hedron Alignment as my only card to put it in my graveyard. My opponent used Pyxis to exile a card face-down a few turns ago and I realize that it was a Hedron Alignment since there are none in my deck, I have one in play and another already in my hand. Am I able to win during my upkeep still?

Sadly no.

The exiled Hedron Alignment is exiled face down, so it has no characteristics at that time. That means it’s not named Hedron Alignment (or anything else) and the trigger won’t see it.

Final Hedron Alignment Game Wins: 25

It is with great sadness that I announce the deconstruction of my effamed Hedron Alignment deck. Unfortunately, with the fetches and, more importantly, Dig Through Time and Murderous Cut rotating out (DTT and MC were very crucial to exiling Hedrons), I decided that it is best to move on to the next janky venture, hopefully a deck that doesn’t involve me having three Chandras so I can sell these hot babes.

At least I will always have four foil Hedron Alignments, one with 25 tally marks written on it in pen, to remember the astonishment and embarrassment on my opponents’ faces.

Hedron Alignment has hexproof; does that mean I can't exile it either?

It means that it can’t be the target of spells or abilities controlled by players other than its controller. If the effect you want to use on it uses the word “target”, then you can’t use it.

Heya, I saw your Hedron Alignment Legacy Deck post! If at all possible, can we get some highlights from the tournament you played with it at, if it's happened already? It seems like a really neat deck, and with Legacy's barrier to entry, I can't really play it much, so I love hearing about it. Cheers!

So I went to a legacy event today and I played the deck... 

..and it didn’t go well.

At all.

I played three matches and didn’t win a single game. I could maybe have won one game if I’d sequenced my plays differently. While the deck looks good in theory, it’s susceptible to a lot of hate that exists for other decks in the format, specifically graveyard hate. It also doesn’t have many answers once a spell resolves. It folds in half to Chalice of the Void on X=1, for example.

So what does this mean for the deck? It means that the straight combo shell just doesn’t work, and a different approach must be taken. I have a couple of ideas for directions the deck could be taken:

The first option is to put it in more of a prison-style control shell, with things like Trinisphere and Propaganda and the like to lock my opponents down and keep them from from attacking me.

The other idea is to plug in U/R delver package with Lightning Bolt, Delver of Secrets, Young Pyromancer, and Snapcaster Mage.

I like both ideas, but I think the second option would be more competitive, even if it dilutes the deck from a pure combo style.
