#not a shitpost #kinda a shitpost #a rant. i am ranting #they did it. they finally did it. they made me download the app that broke the camel's back #fyi i love and adore wireless headphones/earbuds they've improved my life i wear mine every day it's a legitimate accessibility device #and i REFUSE to buy a personal device without a headphone jack.#will i personally use it? probably not #should it be amongst the most basic standard of expected features? absolutely #if i can't trust the international corporation that made my phone to even include a BASIC ASS PIECE OF EQUIPMENT #then what else can't i trust them with? this giant powerful company with intimate access to my life and information #due to the fact they DESIGNED the Extremely Powerful Objects I Carry With Me Everywhere I Go #what happens if i can't trust their intentions?#what's next exploding batteries?#i jest. that would obviously never happen. that's an outlandish exaggeration i'm using to make a figurative point #update: had a hot minute to chill and remembered that wired earbuds can still be attached to phones through the charging port #(need an adapter for older earbuds/headphones but still a viable option)#so yes i overreacted but only a bit because we are in fact in a transitional period #where we're moving from Old Wired Connnection (audio jack) to wireless connection AND New Wired Connection (charging port)#so it would be reasonable to remove the audio jack from phones...AFTER THEY ARE ALREADY PHASED OUT from earbuds/headphones #unfortunately it's not a “this tech is already obsolete so we've stopped supporting it ” situation #so much as a “this tech will naturally be obsolete in 5+ years so in the meantime go fuck yourself and buy more products”#(also arguably the audio jack should only be replaced by a SECOND charging/universal port so you can do multiple things at once)#(this is just a good move in general. even if every port/hole (heh. porthole)was universal redundancy exists for a reason)#WE NEED MORE THAN ONE ONAHOLE!!!#MORE👏THAN👏ONE👏ONAHOLE👏👏👏
