He’ll show up at a Starbucks three days after the discussion, and by this time you’ve mostly forgotten it, but it’s not completely gone from your mind either because you spot the damn thing immediately. It sticks out easily, and yet the piercing looks like it’s been there forever. He wears it well.

It’s so easy to gape and gawk because he’s growing out his hair, and he looks tousled and tired from packing all night, plus the lip ring, plus that wink he throws at you that you try your hardest not to take to heart because Taehyung winks at everyone - you’re not special - and,

“Packed yet?” he asks, bumping your shoulder with his while you stand frozen on the line for coffee.

“Huh?” you respond intellectually.

The line is moving in front of you, and when you stay in place, the girl behind you cuts in front of you with an annoyed glare.

“Hey,” you protest, yanking your attention back to lining up for coffee. The girl plugs in her earbuds, and Taehyung is distractingly handsome, so you let it go.

“Don’t worry, I’m not cutting,” Taehyung tells the intimidating-looking nerd behind you. “I’m just keeping her company.”

“When-“

Taehyung grins and plays with the lip ring with his tongue. You’re mesmerized - absolutely fascinated by the way he wiggles the metal back and forth with his damp and shiny tongue. And it’s almost erotic until it disappears.

He plucks it out and shows you. “It’s fake.”

“Oh.” There is a pause where you see him reinstall the fake lip ring.

“Disappointed?” he smiles.

“Hardly,” you snort. It unsettled you more than anything, and your mind is working overdrive after remembering that damn conversation. “Why is this line not moving...” you mumble.

“Anyway,” Taehyung says, “I’m just trying it out. Might get it for real if the reaction’s good. If yours is any indication, I think I’ll do it...”

“My reaction?” you splutter.

Taehyung slings his arm over your shoulder and walks with you three paces as the line progresses at a snail’s pace. “You couldn’t stop staring at me,” he reminds you smugly.

“Yeah. In shock.”

“You thought I was hot,” he tells you straight into your ear. “Admit it.”

You swallow inaudibly and crush the heat that’s about to rise up to your face.

“Everyone thinks you’re hot, Taehyung,” you deadpan. “It’s nothing new.”

Taehyung nods slowly, an unreadable look crossing his face before it’s replaced by a placid smile.

“You do know I’m showing off for you, right?” he says, patting your head.

Your throat feels heavy and thick, but in a good sort of way. “And why would you do that?”

“If I buy you coffee and call this a date, can you figure it out?” he counters.

The line moves.
