It takes three days of secretly dating Buck before Eddie starts to crack.
He gets it, really. He knows Buck wants to keep this to themselves, knows he doesn’t want to face the ‘I told you so’s,’ doesn’t want to deal with the paperwork, or the outside opinions, or any other complications that come with finally being together. He wants to keep their relationship safe and warm and nestled close to his chest. But, sue him! Eddie is getting antsy!
He wants to be able to tell everyone about his boyfriend (his boyfriend!!!) He wants to talk about his smile and how good he is with Chris and how excited he finally is for the future. He wants everyone to get sick and tired of how sappy he is. He wants to make gay jokes without Ravi telling him he's being homophobic. Most of all, he wants to kiss Buck before they rush off on a call.
Eddie’s never had that, never been able to share about a partner and feel so good about it. So right.
So, on the third day, Eddie walks up into the loft, and when Chim offers him a snack from the fridge, he says, “No thank you! I already ate Buck’s cake today.” He sees Hen cover her mouth like she has an inside joke with herself, but everyone else is relatively unfazed.
Chim looks almost affronted “Buck brought cake?”
With a big smile, Eddie says, “No! I ate it at home.”
Hen excuses herself from the table, waving her hand like she can’t deal with this shit anymore. And Eddie smiles to himself, gives himself a gold star. Because really. He does mean it, he loves to eat Buck’s cake. And his frosting. And his birthday candle. Just one really really big candle that gets all hot and melty when Eddie–
“Earth to Eddie” Ravi has suddenly appeared in front of him, snapping his fingers in front of his face.
He knows he’s gone bright red. Chim quirks his head at him as he takes a bite out of a carrot stick and Eddie averts his eyes, “It’s really good cake.’
(And when Buck joins them in the loft a few minutes later and Chim asks him what kind of cake he made, Eddie excuses himself to let them bicker.)
