my mutuals were all doing polls like this and it looked really fun so i went and actually finished refs!! me and @gullethead are writing our very own dating sim where you play as my OC Lorelei and so: which one of the li's routes are you picking?
Which route from my dating sim would you pick
Julian (your sweet but kind of annoying highschool boyfriend)
Mav (a hedonistic, purposeless immortal. your college girlfriend)
Urielle (the intensely curious renegade angel with her head in the internet)
Dante (a refreshing dose of human normality with a suspicious lack of a past)
Julian + Mav (fix your dysfunctional poly relationship)
Mav + Urielle (resolve your girlfriends cheating by bringing the other girl in)
Julian + Dante (unlock your boyfriends latent bisexuality through jealousy)
Fuck the actual routes, I'm stealing Lorelei! (good luck)
even if it's all in good fun, i did not expect this blog to get this many numbers LOL. thank you guys so SO much for the support through this one whole month! and to more months of badly drawn tunner 🫡
They often fall into leadership positions. In the band this doesn't mean too much, because technically their real "leader" is their papa, but quint ghouls tend to be the ones other ghouls turn to when they need help or to feel safe. On top of that, quint ghouls have a lot of sway over other ghouls. They're very compelling.
Part of this manifests as my FAVORITE HEADCANON-
Quintessence ghouls have a unique sound they can make that compels the ghouls they're bonded with to group up/pay attention/etc.
it's kinda like the jerma teacher noise
I think all ghouls can make a variety of special noises, but quint ghouls are the only truly compelling ones.
Humans usually can't perceive these noises, but since ghouls bond by being in close proximity, people in the abbey start being able to hear these noises after a while. It doesn't have the same affect on humans, though, and it's easy to miss unless you're really close with the ghouls (like the Papas). The noise is very loud and hard to ignore for ghouls. It can be unnerving for ghouls who aren't bonded to the one making the noise.
ANYWAYS. I have noises picked out for Omega, Aether, and Phantom that I'm going to put below the cut as well as what they tend to use it for & how they feel about it :)
no noise for Delta, because he was not a natural born quint ghoul, so he never developed that noise.
VERY big shout out to @plaquerat for helping me sort out these sounds and sorry I literally just made last minute changes. again.
OMEGA: he sounds like a shoebill stork. It comes from deep in his throat. He doesn't make this noise very often, but when he does it scares the fuck out of people in the abbey if they can hear it. He's one of the first three quint ghouls they had around, and the first to actually "lead" a pack of ghouls so nobody. knew he could do that until it happened.
Usually he only ever makes that noise when he's really annoyed with everyone and he needs them to shut up and listen. Sometimes he'll use it when they're split up, too. He doesn't like forcing the other ghouls to pay attention to him, so he only does this when he really has to.
AETHER: he sounds like a northern cardinal, specifically those longer sustained notes. He whistles. He is absolutely no stranger to making this noise, because he ended up with a bunch of ghouls to look after and they're a rowdy bunch. It's not really a discipline thing, though, he just gets really worried about everyone, so he's always wanting to bring everyone together and check in.
PHANTOM: he sounds like a brown bat :) from high up in his throat. His noise is quieter than most, because he doesn't have much experience using it and because he's young. His friends hear him loud and clear though! ...Copia is still figuring it out.
Phantom absolutely abuses the noise once he realizes the effect it has on everyone. He wants a cuddle pile NOW. Phantom isn't much of a leader, even though he tried to be at first, so usually he just uses it for attention (or in very specific scenarios where it's that agreed he needs to make a signal for everyone)
COPIA: he can’t actually make a real quint ghoul noise, but he’s convinced he can whenever he makes the jerma teacher noise. Everyone stops and looks at him because they’re confused as fuck and go to check on him.
The doll is trying to cope - to make peace with this place. She cannot help but feel out of place, a dream brought into the real world, though she knows this was not the real world the hunters walked.
... Or, at least, she’s pretty sure.
The weather warms her cool skin, banishes a chill from her artificial bones, and she’s aware of a faint tug of comfort, of home, and she attributes it to homesickness, if anything, and yet...
Her feet move, without her approval, towards it, desperate for a taste of home, of the dream, of a hunter - the Hunter, who gave her these feelings most recently.
At some point, she runs, and comes to stop in front of a woman, much shorter than her, unable to believe what she sees. She doesn’t breathe heavily - if anything, she breathes not at all.
“... Good Hunter?” She folds her hands together and tries to regain some of her composure, act like she is supposed to. The doll smiles and bows, polite as ever, making herself calm.
“... Aah. What a relief it is to see you, here and well. I had not even imagined that I would be so fortunate...”
you're still going out and doing whatever you want, aren't you? [said affectionately as fuck]
there's a smile that blossoms on june's features at the question, a chuckle drifting from her brims as she reaches across the table and takes a hold of sarah's hands into her own. skies, june wishes that she had this same feeling growing up, a girl friend who she could lean on and also be able to completely be herself with. if anyone could bring that warmth from people, it's sarah. "of course," june reassures with a wink. "sometimes i find a nice club and let my hair down and dance the night away." it's one of the few times that june feels some semblance of normalcy, surrounded by others who are also there for one intention: to celebrate for a night and push off tomorrow. "in fact, i think it's about time we're due for a night off, don't you think? wanna come with?" the last is said with a hint of mischeviousness, but only simply because this may have been her plan the entire drive over, to see if she can coax sarah out for a much needed girls night.
