Waking up next to a guy who you SWORE to yourself was only a friend is an experience I never thought I would have, yet here I am, staring at my sleeping best friend, shirtless and drooling on my pillow.
I watched the ginger sleep for a bit before I got up and got ready. For some reason, my face was flushed and my heart rate was oddly higher than usual. I shook off the thoughts that flew through my mind as I showered.
It’s nothing, Dallas. Stop being a creep. He just needs a place to crash for a bit. It’s nothing.
Jesus, that did nothing to help. I groaned and tied my damp hair back as I got ready. Somehow, I didn’t hear the footsteps that lead to my bathroom. I didn't realize Two-Bit was standing at the door, looking at me groggily and half-lidded, until I saw his blank stare and bed head in my mirror.
I yelled, practically jumping out of my skin. Two-Bit had a tiny grin on his face, satisfied at my fear, before shuffling forward and placing his head on my shoulder. For some damn reason, my heart rate picked up again.
He said simply, resting his chin on my shoulder.
“Two-Bit, why the hell did you HAVE to jumpscare me? It’s barely 9 A.M,”
I complained, but Two-Bit simply chuckled into my shoulder, his breath making me shiver slightly.
Calm down, Dallas. It’s just Keith.
I replied in the same whiny tone he used with me as I did my eyeliner. Two-Bit wrapped his arms around my waist, hugging me from behind.
“Dumbass, that’s because you drank yourself to sleep last night.”
I tried to sound annoyed, but I couldn’t help but smile at his whiny tone, my heart fluttering as he hugged around my waist. Two groaned into my shoulder, releasing his grasp around me, and started to hunt for Tylenol in my cabinets.
“Third drawer down in my dresser, man,”
I instructed as I turned to lean on the bathroom counter. I watched as the ginger-haired dude I claimed as my best friend held up the bottle like a piece of treasure.
“Thank the heavens for whoever decided to create this beauty of a pain reliever,”
He muttered, while downing at least 4 of the pills down with no water. Realizing I was watching him, I turned around and finally decided to actually dry my hair. As I did so, Keith sat on the floor contently with his legs extended in front of him, watching me. After another 5 minutes, I was finally alright with how I looked for the day. I went to my closet, pulled out a plain black shirt, and threw it at my best friend’s face. He laughed lightly and put on the shirt, following me downstairs. Buck wasn’t there in the mornings, so we had the place to ourselves. I sat down at the empty bar and Two-Bit sat down next to me. We started talking about nothing important. As the conversation carried on, it slowly got more and more serious, talking about relationships and our futures. Just as I finished my 4th cigarette of the morning, Keith looked at me and spoke quieter that I ever heard him talk in my time of knowing him.
“Dal, is it weird that I have a massive crush on a guy who I’m convinced is into chicks and only chicks?”
I looked at him, my heart sinking slightly, not at the part where he liked a guy, but that he liked a guy who he thought didn’t like him back.
Why the hell am I thinking this? I don’t like Two-Bit. I CAN’T like him. It’s probably not even me, so why am I so damn worried?
“Man, like who you like. I don’t give a shit. Plus, how are you so convinced he only picks up chicks?”
I asked, looking away and trying to calm my growing anxiety.
“Well, he only talks about girls. I think he’s just not into dudes.”
He looked hesitant answering, fidgeting with his hands as he spoke softly. I’d never seen him like this. Not once. Ever.
“Well, could you… I dunno, ask if he likes guys..? Maybe he likes you too.”
I elbowed Two-Bit’s shoulder, grinning and raising my eyebrows, trying to brighten him up.
“And if he doesn’t..? He ain’t a girl, Dal. If he doesn’t like me back, that could ruin.. everything- I dunno...”
“Keith, trust me. Just confess and see what happens.”
I wanted to strangle myself for the advice I was giving. What the hell did I know? I’m just boring old Dally Winston who messes around with chicks and hasn’t been in a healthy relationship since my first grade girlfriend, Maria.
My brain stopped working for a second. I wanted to get up and scream yes! at the top of my lungs. My best friend, who I had a massive crush on, just confessed he liked me.
“Y-ya know what? forget it. I’m gonna go now! Sorry and you can just ignore everything I just said and ignore me if you want! I’ll see myself out now.”
He stood up and headed for the door. I panicked and grabbed his wrist.
Two-Bit stopped and looked at me, confused. He was about to say something when I shut him up by planting my lips on his.
What the hell are you doing, you idiot?!
I almost pulled myself off of him, but he put his arms around my waist and kissed back. After a long while, we pulled away, our faces flushed.
“I like guys, by the way.”
Two-Bit grinned and cocked an eyebrow.
We kissed again, but this time it was different. I could tell he wasn’t so anxious about this because his hand cupped my face. This time, I did it right back, my other arm resting on his waist as I muttered into his lips.
"You still taste like beer, by the way."
