I'm a sucker for Hilbert and Eiffel's weird relationship especially bc there's a very good reason Eiffel becomes so fixated on the humanity of this guy who has very badly hurt him. He offers a redemption Hilbert doesn't even want because he has to believe that no crime can strip a person of their human dignity or their right to live. There is no threshold of transgression at which a human being becomes a monster, and deserves to suffer for it.

And that's because the only reason Eiffel's even there on the U.S.S. Human Trafficking is because someone else already judged him, convicted felon Doug Eiffel, to have crossed that threshold. He was that monster. And he didn't deserve it.

A headcanon that I will never let go of is that I'm certain Eiffel was SO mentally fucked up for a while after being rescued from Lovelace's shuttle and coming back to the Hephaestus, like I'm sure he had nightmares for months at least. I think like second night he's back on the Hephaestus he has a vivid nightmare of being back in the shuttle and wakes up convinced that he is still there and the whole rescue was a hallucination, so he stumbles out of his room in a panic and nearly inconsolable cause of course he was never rescued, that's ridiculous, what are the chances, he doesn't have that kind of luck, he must be just slowly dying alone in the shuttle and his brain's convinced him he escaped so he can cope but he didn't. And whichever crewmember finds him (I imagine it's Hilbert cause I <3 Heiffel, but really anyone works) has to spend most of the rest of that night calming Eiffel down and convincing him that this is real, he really was rescued, he's safe now, and probably eventually he falls asleep/passes out from exhaustion in their arms once he's finally feeling more stable in his reality

I have arrived at this fandom 10 years later, and its pretty funny seeing most of the stuff in the heiffel tag from 4-8 years ago be like happy aus and fluff and comfort... which i am absolutely not opposed to! but also i thought we were here because of the fucked up experiment test subject stuff... guess ill see myself out-

Hi I'm back on my Wolf359 thing again and specifically on that little twig called heiffel hell and now I can't stop thinking about how Hilbert is the only person who calls Eiffel "Douglas" and Eiffel really, really likes that way he says it. Any of the ways he says it.
