The Hosts Realize: You’re The Same Height As Honey

Totally not based on any realization I had or anything that I am 4′11″ and he’s 4′10″

Tamaki:

At first, he just smiles and helps where he can. He tends to be gentle about the height difference, used to be among the tallest of the group. Having said that, he does like to affectionately call you “Mouse.” It’s not meant to be mean. He just thinks it’s a cute nickname.

Kyoya:

He literally doesn’t care about your height. Actually, that’s a lie. He looks at you and wonders if he could offer you as a package with Honey-Senpai. The “Lolita Host Package” was what Renge came up with.

Hikaru:

He loves picking on you. Occasionally, he’ll steal one of your books and hold it out of reach, pestering you until either Tamaki or Takashi come up and grab it back for you. He likes to also rest his arm on your head like his personal armrest, much to your distaste. What’s worse is he took Tamaki’s cute nickname and twisted it so now you hate it!

Kaoru:

He’s much more understanding than his brother. He actually loves to help you find outfits that help you look a bit taller, and even helped you find some inserts for your shoes! He’ll tease now and then but it’s all playful.

Haruhi:

Okay. She actually doesn’t care about your height. In fact, she’s even commented that it’s cute for someone like you and works really well since you’re like Honey-Senpai, in that, you’re proportional instead of awkward looking in your height. When you’re working together in some way, whether it be while cooking together or helping decorate the club room, she helps reach whatever she can until one of you finally caves and calls on Mori-Senpai.

Takashi:

Speaking of! Takashi actually loves your height. Since he’s used to Honey’s height, it doesn’t really make a difference. In fact, once as a joke, he lifted you on his shoulders like he does with Honey. He felt you tense at first, but when he assured you he wouldn’t drop you, he could tell you were extremely happy to be up there. Even though you’re definitely a mature student of the Ouran Academy, you love the childlike treatment Takashi occasionally gives you.

Mitsukuni:

“Finally! A friend as small as me!” He’s so excited to not be the only short host. Of course, he loves being small as it helps with his hosting abilities and looks cute, but he helps you learn to love your height. You might not be the best at sports, but he shows you all sorts of things you are good at and that your height doesn’t matter. In fact, he thinks it’s super cute!

Something that bugs me

You know what has always really bothered me?

Height in movies.

How, You may ask.

Well let me tell you:

I have not yet seen a movie, where there’s a tall girl (taller than the boys of said movie) who is not portrayed as weird. I have never seen a movie, where tall girls are around and small guys without it being a big joke or them being weirdos. And it bugs me!

Take Iron Man for instance. Here we have Pepper and Tony:

Iron Man is clearly portrayed taller than Pepper... however, if you look at the actor’s real height:

NB: Sorry for the Danish, ‘højde’ means height

Gwenyth Paltrow is taller than RDJ (yes, only a centimeter, but it still matters)

Why does this bother me?! Because we don’t see this is the movie! We never see girls being taller than their boyfriends, we never see a small guy or a tall girl in movies being normal people... which we are. And yes, on average men are taller than women... but that doesn’t mean that the media should force it down people’s throats, that every relationship in a movie is between a guy who is taller than the girl, that a tall girl is weird or that a small guy is weak, because THAT IS NOT THE TRUTH!

We have come so far in showing diversity; people of color, gay people, fat people, thin people etc...

But we don’t show height. A small guy can be a hero, a tall girl can be cute!

And guess what? You don’t get to choose how tall you are! You can’t change it! As a tall girl myself, I have often felt ‘too big’ or ‘wrong’ because I’m taller than all the boys (actors as well) and ‘I will never find a boyfriend, who is taller than me’. Well now I’ve realized that it doesn’t matter, and so should the movie industry! The thing that gets manipulated with the most in movies are probably height! Because it seems that it’s taboo, if a girl is taller than a boy!

Wake up! In the real world, tall girls are normal and small guys are as well.

So what I’m asking is:

Dear Movie industry; please don’t make all guys seem taller than girls, if they aren’t in real life, because you are sending a message, about how tall one should be, and that is not something anyone can control. You have come so far in showing different people as main characters... Now please, show us the real height of the actors playing them. Show us the diversity in height! Show us that girls can be taller than boys and still be normal!
