Armchair, big open window front, sunny afternoon, good cup of coffee and some pretty good cake. Do I need to add more?
I got all that at Heilandt – one of Colognes best coffee roasters. To top it off, I was able to order my soy latte in the Australasian lingo (just asking for a soy latte confuses people most of the time) – really made my day! Heilandt have a café in the Belgium Quarter on a fairly quiet street. I think it’s definitely a cool place to hang out. There are three of said armchairs, some sofas and a few tables outside. Mixed crowd, laid back, friendly service. All good.
This cake is called Red Velvet. I don’t know how the do it but it’s chocolate cake. Gone red. It tastes of chocolate. With cream cheese icing. I could feel the calories melting away on my tongue while I was enjoying this. The cake itself is dense, moist but slightly crumbly. The cream cheese and cacao flavours harmonise well.
Although the selection of cake was modest it was enticing. The flavours I saw were Caribbean, berry, apricot and cheesecake.
Definitely worth a visit. If not for the cake then the coffee.
