It seems as if those who study Egyptian mythology in literature classes usually overlook the earth god Geb. This shouldn’t be so, because he has contributed greatly in the creation of order in the world. Geb is also part of the Ennead, which is the group of the nine major gods in Egyptian mythology. He is part of it because he is the son of Tefnut and Shu and also the grandson of the all-powerful Ra. This alone states how much importance he has among the gods. Other than that, all organisms that live on his body are watered by Nut’s tears, after they were separated from each other by their father, Shu. Speaking of his relationship with his sister, they actually gave life to the most famous gods like Osiris and Isis. So without Geb, would there even be an Osiris or Isis to read about? In fact, if Geb had ceased to exist, we wouldn’t even have any landmass at all. This only shows how important he is as an Egyptian god.
