HEISTGEIST (dev. Doublequote Studio)
Get Ready for Intense Battles in HeistGeist Cyberpunk RPG
HeistGeist cyberpunk RPG game launches the story-driven experience on Linux, Mac, and Windows PC. Developer Doublequote Studio’s creative talents bring this release to life. Now on Steam with a discount and 94% Positive reviews. Get ready to dive into the gritty cyberpunk world of HeistGeist! The latest single-player RPG from indie studio Doublequote Studio is finally here. Now live on Steam for Linux. This game has all the ingredients to keep you hooked — high-stakes heists, intense battles, deep storytelling, and that cyberpunk aesthetic. In HeistGeist, you step into the shoes of Alexandra, a skilled thief on the run after a job goes south. Set in a fictional Central Europe in the 2040s, the gameplay drops you into a world where corporations rule, tech is everywhere, and every choice you make could change the course of the story. Your mission? Build a crew of specialists to help you pull off some truly epic heists while staying one step ahead of the powerful corporations who’d like nothing more than to see you fail. What’s unique about HeistGeist is its cyberpunk and unique approach to combat and strategy. Battles are card-based, meaning you’ll use a deck of cards to outwit security systems, guards, and other obstacles in your path. You’re not just slapping down random cards, either — HeistGeist lets you create killer combos, level up your deck, and even adapt your cyberpunk strategies depending on your playstyle. Whether you’re into all-out offense or a more tactical approach, this title lets you play your way, with controller support..
HeistGeist cyberpunk RPG - Launch Trailer
The hacking system takes things up a notch. Rather than just pressing a button to hack into these cyberpunk systems, HeistGeist makes hacking a title of its own. Imagine cyberspace as a grid, and each move you make involves placing programs and viruses to break through the servers’ defenses. It’s strategic and totally immersive, keeping the hacking experience fresh and engaging every step of the way. Of course, no cyberpunk game would be complete without a solid storyline, and HeistGeist delivers. The title is fully voiced, so you’ll get to know the personalities of each character as you progress. The story is full of twists, so you’ll always be guessing who to trust and what might happen next. Doublequote Studio has created a rich world that feels both futuristic and grounded in the gritty reality of a tech-obsessed society.
Here’s a quick look at what makes it all special:
Heists: Every mission is more than just a job—it’s a test of strategy and skill. Plan carefully because every choice could change the story.
Story: HeistGeist follows a gripping, original cyberpunk tale set in a very cool, reimagined Central Europe. The full voice cast brings every character to life.
Combat: Engage in card-based battles that demand quick thinking and powerful combos. It’s all about timing and strategy!
RPG Elements: Build your character by constructing a deck that fits your style. Install cyberware to boost your abilities and give you the edge.
Hacking: Jump into cyberspace and take on grid-based hacking challenges. Install programs and run viruses to crack systems and get to the good stuff.
If you’re into story-driven games that mix cyberpunk RPG elements, card battles, and a fresh hacking mechanic, then HeistGeist is your next go-to. Launch into it on Steam, build your perfect deck, and see if you’ve got what it takes to survive the future. Which you can play now on Linux, Mac, and Windows PC.
HEISTGEIST: A STORY-DRIVEN, TURN-BASED RPG
Hey, you guys don't mind if drop this in the Cyberpunk 2077 tag, right? I just wanna give this game some attention.
I stumbled upon this game on accident, but it caught my attention by its artstyle and visuals (which were clearly inspired by 2077, which is not a bad thing).
This game is developed by Doublequote Studio, a team of four from Slovakia. No, I am not paid to promote this game. Like I said, I just happened to come across it while scrolling through social media, and my go-to merch store is advertising it. I thought I'd spread the word outside of this small corner of Europe.
I've had fun playing the demo, but it takes some trial and error to get the hang of the gameplay. The gameplay is turn-based where you build your deck of cards, which you can upgrade and customize to your liking. It has some small technical issues, which didn't bother me much, because it's most likely gonna be polished in the final release. And you gotta remember it's made by four people.
You can play the demo right now on Steam.
Description from the website:
"HeistGeist is a story-driven RPG set in a cyberpunk version of Central Europe. Play as Alexandra, doublecrossed street-smart thief on the run after a job gone bad. Put together a team of specialists, execute highly elaborate heists, fight in card-based battles and hack into the most secure corporate systems."
The release date is November 11th 2024.

So I finished HeistGeist and I want to talk about it. (Heavy spoilers underneath)
You can clearly tell this is a labour of love. The characters have so much, well, character to them.
Alexandra is the main debtrunner who is desperately trying to ignore her PTSD about the last job gone wrong by doing more of the exact same type of jobs. She's very protective of Zoya, her new-recruit teen gridrunner (hacker) little sister teammate.
Zoya is herself ride-or-die with Alex from day one, and their partnership makes up a lot of the heart of the story.
Csaba is a grizzled old boat captain drunk with a morally ambiguous past who nonetheless decides to go sober because he likes everyone else on the team so much.
Karel is your fixer who actually gets involved in the jobs as much as he can. His frayed relationship with Alex is very nuanced, and despite his moustache he always has your back.
Lujsa is a good girl.
~
The visual identity of the characters is really strong as well.
Here's Alex:
You can tell what she's about by her gear, posture, tattoos/body mods and hair.
She also cleans up nicely.
~
Here's Alex's new little sister hacker, Zoya.
Look at how adorable she is. She's green but she's trying her best, guys.
~
This is Morrigan, a reoccurring bounty hunter you cross paths with:
Again, strong visual identity there. Sensible gear, but makeup and hair and patterns of the cloak tell you she's a gothy quiet hunter.
~
Here's your main corpo badguy, Colonel Katarina Morova, and you can tell right away.
And her final battle gear:
(Too bad she's a corpo, because hashtag 'not to be a lesbian').
~
The card battle mechanics are what you make of them, but generally you'll want to abuse the combo mechanics of A combos to B combos to A combos to B, repeat ad nauseum. The other cards, C, are your finishers and don't make up the bulk of your turn (but can make up the bulk of your damage - pick up and evolve Storm of Swords).
~
The story builds on itself the entire time, and every mission leads onto the next. Story beats unfold organically and you can see the logic behind each action and each heist. The optional sub-objectives work to flesh out your teammates' characters and backstories, and help you to build a rapport with them.
~
It's a fun game, and if you pick it up you shouldn't be disappointed.
The cyberpunk setting is understated, but present. They could've leaned into it more. Maybe in the sequel.
(P.S. I lowkey ship Alexandra-Morrigan-Morova in a Chelli Aphra-Magna Tolvan-Sana Starros esque throuple. There are similarities there.)
I'm 3.5 hours into HeistGeist and I'm really enjoying it.
The writing's good, dialogue's good, visuals are fun, gameplay is a good mix of challenging and entertaining, and I just found out I have a little sister (Zoya) to look after.
Eager to play more.
P.S. It's also on sale right now for <£10 in case anyone else was thinking about picking it up.
