His heart was rushing way too fast. A hole in his chest ached as he walked down the corridors with his head in his hands. He was breathing too fast. Too confused to slow his breath down enough to breath properly. These messages weren’t even from someone he knew and yet they really went to his head. He was shaking. He was panicking.
They were right. Too right. Hunk had fucked everything up. Keith hated him now. How could he do anything else? Keith had turned around and walked right out after Hunk had fucked up everything. Not only once but twice in a row. “Stupid stupid stupid...” Of course Keith didn’t want to talk to him again.Â
Lance was seeing things when he talked about that crush that Keith supposedly had on him. Keith had lied to him. About koalas for some reason. Then he had tried it again. Was it all a game? Did Keith really know about all these things that he went around looking and acting clueless about just to fuck with him? Maybe he was. Maybe he wasn’t. Maybe this was all in Hunk’s head and things weren’t as bad as they seemed. Or maybe the way that Keith felt uncomfortable, told lies and now said that they were a team and... that was it. That was all they were. It felt like it was barely that at the moment.
It was all spinning around in Hunk’s head. He couldn’t make sense of it. He needed to apologize but at this point he would probably say something that would blow up the castle or something. Run his mouth and ruin everything that was left that hadn’t been ruined yet. Why did he even open his mouth in the first place? Was there anything up in his head that wasn’t saying stupid shit and food? If anything all his brain was was marshmallow. It certainly felt like it. Things didn’t seem real anymore. His heart hammering in his chest hurt. His feet felt like clay. His thoughts were spinning out of control.
He needed some help. He couldn’t fix this alone.Â
Lance hadn’t been in his room. That’s why Hunk walked through the corridors. Looking for the blue paladin to ask him for help. At least a few words. Anything. Something to help Hunk to get his feet back down on the ground again. Something that helped the world make sense again. Someone.
A cheerful laughter made Hunk stop. He could hear chattering from one of the common rooms. For some reason he didn’t dare to call out to ask who it was. He dropped his hands from his tussled and tugged hair, bits of his locks falling loose since he had been pulling so hard. Quietly Hunk went over to the open door and peered inside.
Keith was sitting on the sofa and Lance was resting in his lap. They looked happy enough. Joking about something. Keith was joking about something, tipping Lance backwards and catching him before he could fall over. His hand caught on to the back of Lance’s head and Keith’s fingers ran into the short brown hair.Â
Hunk clenched his chest, balling up the fabric of his shirt tightly. He back up back into the shadow before he was spotted. Silently he turned around and headed back the way he had come from.

Keith does beat poetry.
This is all because of this post here!Â
Lance does echoes and Hunk dramatically strums the ukulele at times. NOT PICTURED! Coran on the keytar. But believe me! He is coming too!

As Lance patted his head a pout formed on Hunk’s face. This whole thing was his fault. Hunk thought he could do something fun out of this but instead it had turned into a mess. “I... I thought I could... You know?” His hands were in the air waving around aimlessly. That wasn’t helping him to communicate what he wanted to say at all. Hunk grimaced. “I thought that if I played up the part a little I could come off as this mentor or instructor to the struggling pupil and... Give Keith hugging lessons from it. I wanted to say that his hugs weren’t up to standard so that I could hug him more by... uh... teaching him how to hug?” Oh god it sounded completely moronic when he said it out loud. Hunk groaned and buried his face in his hands. “Fuck I’m dumb.”

What had their lives turned into? A few weeks prior their biggest worries had been exams and flight simulation routines. Now it was the fate of the whole universe that rested upon their shoulders. This wasn’t the time to let your guard down. This wasn’t the time to get sloppy. This was not the time...
To let suspicions go left unattended for too long.
Not even after what had been a successful mission to a planet plagued by a terrifying monsters. Even if the locals seemed to have trouble really agreeing on what had really attacked them. The leader of the people, the king of a grand city of what appeared to be very paranoid people had frankly been quite rude when Lance and Keith had been refused reentry to the city to show what they had found in that overgrown jungle. But at least they would be free of the sweltering heat and could return to the castle with the report of a job well done.Â
Hunk had met them when they landed. Seemingly acting a bit aloof and uncharacteristically quiet. Though he had just been through a rather nasty gastro internal ordeal during the mission itself. It was not at all odd for him to be a bit tired and wanting to be alone.
It hadn’t taken long before they could joke away the nasty find they had done in that jungle. Even poking fun of each other for how close Lance and Keith probably had come to join Hunk in those bushes. There had been a few other weird jokes too from Hunk’s side. Apparently finding a rotting corpse on a mission had made him take up a bit of a morbid sense of humor. Or the joke was that he seemed to call everyone Bob for a few hours.
And things had been good. For a day or two. They hadn’t had much to do. Apparently the whole Galra fleet was laying low or something. If what he was writing was anything to go after the whole situation was boring Lance. He had set off to join Coran on a planet for a while and come back with presents.Â
Which hadn’t turned out as he had expected and left the blue paladin more confused about his friend than anything else. That confusion was only made worse by Hunk giving Lance quite the scare just the day after. It wasn’t like the yellow paladin to be stealthy. And even if Lance was singing to himself at the time, he should have heard Hunk coming. That was when Lance had started to suspect that there might have been something else that was going on with Hunk. If there wasn’t then there had better be an explanation to all of this. Hunk wasn’t one to forget when someone messed with his food.
Hunk’s behavior was unsettling Lance enough for him to act upon it. But when Lance had gone to talk to Hunk about it, finding the yellow paladin in the hangar of the yellow lion and running tests, something had felt off. So off that Lance had smoothed over any intruding question and quickly changed the subject. But something about Hunk’s behavior had stuck out. It was as if Hunk’s body was trying to send out signals that he wasn’t aware of. Like a quiet plead for help.
Something that Keith had experienced only a bit earlier that day. While trying out a friendly sparring match, Keith had gotten the feeling that things were not quite as they seemed either. Catching Hunk acting out of character one moment only to go back to being himself the next. It was during this encounter that Keith too had noticed the strange message from Hunk. Only it had not been interrupted like it would be later when Lance saw it.Â
Feeling that he might be wrong. It might have been nothing. A day later, after routine training with all of the paladins, Keith had found Hunk smiling like his old self again. But when he asked him about it, Keith only got more evidence that something was terribly wrong.Â
It had been almost a week since their mission to the jungle planet. A whole week of Hunk acting strange. This time Keith was certain that something was wrong and he was going to do something about it. He needed back up. He found Lance.
What the two of them didn’t know. Was that they were running out of time.Â
"Hey Hunk," Keith pointedly ignores Lance. "How do you feel about sharknado."
“Sharknado?” Were they really doing this? Had they really come this far? “You mean those completely ridiculous movies with the bad acting, bad effects, over the top death by random flying sharks in a tornado going all over the place? And it all ends in a huge explosion in what has to be the most incredible amazing movie ever produced? You mean that Sharknado?”
"Hey." Keith walks forwards, looking a little unsure of himself for a moment. "Do you think we can - can we maybe uh, get over whatever this is? I mean, it's..." Sigh. "Look. I don't understand what you said. But I said things too. And I was - I was wondering if you'd let me hug you again?"
Keith shouldn’t be the one that was here saying these things. Hunk should have been the one that came to Keith. To apologize. Maybe even tell him that things were fine. That he wouldn’t have to say anything at all to Hunk ever again if he didn’t want to. Hunk was so ready to move on from this. To leave that disaster behind. But it wasn’t that simple. There was too many unsaid words and too many questions hanging in the air. Especially right now. Now that Hunk could clearly see Keith’s fingers tracing through Lance’s hair and the fond smile that he had received in return from the blue paladin.Â
“That’s alright Keith. Whatever you want. I shouldn’t... I shouldn’t have said those things. I’m... I’m the one that did wrong. If you’re uncomfortable with me then... You don’t have to do anything you don’t want to.” Neither did Lance.Â
