They were known for their powerful sorcery, use of aphrodisiacs and knowledge of poisonous plants. The witches of Thessaly, among them Chrysame and Erictho, were devotees of the goddess Hecate. These women were the basis for the figure of the witch throughout history. Medea and Circe, famous enchantresses of myth, were also connected to the witchcraft of Thessaly. Their practices said to consist of drawing down the moon, working with powerful plant allies or pharmakon, summoning spirits, weather magick and more.
