Okay but Helgrotha being the one to present herself to Mendeln is actually so much more meaningful after Tales.
She witnessed the first death. She became so terrified that she hid herself from everyone and everything. Then, she made peace with her death.
It's fitting that she's the one to rally in the afterlife.
Hello!
I reread the Sin War and there was an interesting mysterious character, Helgrotha. When I read the novel some years ago, I put her as Rathma's wife/lover, but now, I tend to see her more as his daughter, because of the physical appearence and the way of behaving, she looks more like something he would breed.
Do you know more about her?
Hello hello!
Unfortunately, I haven’t found Helgrotha in any other official media besides the Sin Wars. Maybe we’ll get lucky and she’ll make an appearance in D4, given it seems to be referencing several characters and events from SW.
We know Rathma himself had to have at least one child at some point, and unless he’s committing advanced parthenogenesis, that means a mate. Whether or not Helgrotha fills either of those positions is a matter of personal opinion at this point. The books do mention she was once as strong as him, but make no other connection between the two. Neither Rathma nor Mendeln make mention of her again - you’d think if your student was being helped out by your wife or daughter, you might mention it huh?
I think if we knew who killed her, we’d be able to figure out more. The demons and angels in that section were all killed by Lilith, but there’s no confirmation as to whether all the nephalem spirits there were killed by her, or Inarius. It would seem out of character for Lilith to kill her own grand-daughter/daughter-in-law who is also a super-strong-nephalem-killing-machine, at least at that point in history. It would be wholly in character for Inarius to off her though, given how unconcerned he is with killing his own son. Basically if Lilith killed her - probably not related to Rathma. If Inarius killed her - much better chance they’re related.
Both options - wife or daughter - are perfectly viable though.
Hopefully we’ll get more information on her sometime soon, she was a cool character with a lot of potential!
