Hey, Robin! Love your blog and your musicy tidbits. I just thought that you might be a perfect person to ask about this stuggle I've had as a trumpet player: ledger lines. How have you gotten used to reading and playing when high notes are way up there? I can't seem to unjumble a lot of my higher parts and I usually end up playing it and only using the sheet music for rhythm. It impacts my sightreading a lot. Thanks!
Honestly, if you’re having trouble, write out the note names for a while. That way you’ll associate them properly and you’ll get used to playing the high notes. Also take time to practice reading them, without your instrument. Just pick music with lots of ledger lines (flute music is great for that fyi) and speak the note names and if you want finger along. I know it sounds childish or super simple but like everything else ledger lines just take practice!
