Renji felt his breath catch in his throat and his face going red when his captain stopped and responded to his unintentional compliment. Byakuya didn’t seem angry, who would  to an honest compliment? Then again Byakuya was his superior in a professional environment.

“That was inappropriate of me... I just thought you looked nice with your hair down today that it just slipped out.” Renji apologized as he placed some files on the corner of Byakuya’s desk that he had brought. “Here’s those reports you wanted, Captain.” He muttered softly, not wanting to bother his captain any further.

Immortality was a funny thing in that.. the more things changed, the more things stayed the same.  Fashion had gone from breeches and powdered wigs to stylish suits, and ties with sunglasses and fancy Italian leather shoes.   But the hunger never changed, and that first taste of the evening, that too had remained a constant.

Tonight, dressed to impress in a black Armani suit , the ray bans covering his eyes from the glare of neon lights, a vibrant heartbeat in the city of lost angels, the vampire had left the man who had the unfortunate experience of becoming his latest snack. But a tear James would not shed for him, most of what humanity he possessed was lost long ago. 

City of loss angels indeed. 

A white handkerchief dabbed crimson with blood from the corner of his lip as he slipped out of the alley without missing a step. The hunt for his next meal was on and then, oh perhaps he’d catch a show. The night was young and he was quite eager to have his fill before returning to his penthouse coffin.

Every night when they went to bed, CC made sure to put himself into sleep mode. It wasn’t a habit he had previously, especially given his military background. However, it was a process that was necessary if he wanted to avoid giving his husband a heart attack. There had been a few times early on where the other opened his eyes in the middle of the night and caught CC watching him in his sleep. Yes, he knew it was considered creepy by 99.9% of humans but he couldn’t help it. He adored watching Garrett sleep. Though he knew his husband didn’t like it so now he made sure to go into sleep mode every night, the android perfectly mimicking a sleeping human.

The nudges and frantic whispering immediately roused him from sleep mode. Brown eyes opened to see his husband, though something was clearly wrong. Garrett looked like he was panicked. Afraid. CC quickly sat up in bed, running a scan of the other to make sure he was ok. “Are you alright, babe? What’s wrong?” This was why he didn’t like sleep mode. When he was in it he was completely unaware. Just like a human when they were sleeping He preferred to always be alert so he instantly knew when something was wrong. But...he cared far more about his husbands comfort to even consider going back to his old way of sleeping.

“You look panicked. Did you have a nightmare?” He could already tell from the scan that the other’s heartrate was high. Something was causing his husband great stress. CC immediately held his arms out to Garrett then, as if to bring the other back into his arms. “Tell me what’s going on.”

“Detective Reed.” He nods as the officer comes in and makes his way over to the bar. Toran was busy cleaning glasses and pouring thirium shots for a few of his regulars, though when the two androids saw Reed they quickly moved to a table. Toran had no idea if the Detective was off duty yet or not, as he wasn’t sure what Gavin’s schedule was. “Here for business or pleasure?” It wasn’t uncommon for the DPD to come in and start asking him questions from time to time, or just come in and haul away one of his regulars. Though Reed was a homicide detective so if that was the case then it was likely pretty serious stuff.

A long black box is slid across the table. “Here. Happy Valentine’s Day, Sven.”

Vergil says it like it’s mundane, as if the box didn’t have a gold watch he had liberated from a jeweler. It was a gesture of...well truthfully he didn’t know what. He enjoyed Sven’s company, enjoyed it enough that he’d rather him be around more than not. He supposed that in itself deserved to be recognized, even if he wouldn’t recognize what to call it.

It was supposed to be a simple task. Get the idiot to sign over his psychic powers in exchange for financial support. Easy. Allan had done such a deal time and again. But now it was all complicated because he’d foolishly asked for assistance from Sven. He’d assumed that the bastard would be less moralistic, seeing as he left the Church.

Clearly that assumption was dead wrong. Taking the young man aside, he hissed in his ear, “I asked for your aid so that this matter would be simplified, not complicated. Why are you trying to talk him out of this bargain? He hates being psychic and needs the wealth I can provide. This is a good deal.”
