Baby Azalea Nonsense
Heyo!
So this is technically Helldad nonsense too, but I was more focused on the baby Azalea stuff I guess? I almost gave Aza’s mom a name, but stuck with Y/N for now. Maybe one day they’ll get their own story, but until then, enjoy some random fluff!
Several people (anons mostly I think, forgive me if you requested this with a name, but I couldn’t find any) requested more Aza, so here she is. I probably should have described her more but there’s always next time.
Anywho
Baby Azalea Nonsense
Warnings: lack of pancakes, potentially lost child? that sounds WAY more serious than this is tho....it’s fluff. Rando idea I’ve had floating around in my head.
Everyone was used to baby Azalea showing up at random places. She was small enough to go undetected until the last possible moment, strong enough she could open any unlocked door she came across, and precocious enough that she snuck away from her parents on a pretty regular basis. It also wasn’t uncommon for a call to come across the radios or across the PA system asking for a location on the little one. The BPRD took the “it takes a village” ideology to a whole other level.
“Have you seen my daughter?” Y/N asked, coming into one of the offices. The people inside looked up, glanced under their desks or behind their stuff and shook their heads at her. Y/N just sighed and moved to the next office.
“Hey, Y/N!” Alice said, spotting her friend. “How’s it going?”
“I’m a terrible mother, you know that?” Y/N sighed. “I lost my daughter again and I have a meeting in like ten minutes. I was hoping to put her down for a nap,”
“I saw her following Daimio around earlier, have you checked with him?” Alice offered. Y/N shook her head.
“I don’t know why I didn’t check with him first… I swear he always ends up with her.”
“Unless she convinced Abe to let her jump in his tank again.” Alice said.
“I did check there already, but Abe hadn’t seen her today. I’ll go find Ben.” Y/N said. “Hopefully he has her and I can make my meeting.”
“He should be in the training room,” Alice said waving as Y/N turned around to head to the training area.
“Hey Ben?” Y/N called as soon as she cleared the door.
“No, I don’t have her,” Daimio’s voice called back before Y/N even made it to where he was stretching.
“Damnit, any ideas and where she’s hiding?” Y/N paused, watching him stretch.
“She was telling me about how she wanted to find a screw driver so she could get into the vents this morning.” Daimio said.
“Oh, please god, no.” Y/N’s voice was pure terror. It was bad enough she lost her daughter in the hallways. It would be game over if the little girl got into the vents.
“Don’t worry, our vents don’t work like that.” Daimio almost smiled at the look of terror still lingering on Y/N’s face.
“Thank god for small miracles then,” Y/N rubbed her face. “I’m going to be late to my meeting for sure.”
“Just got to the meeting, she’s probably asleep somewhere. She was yawning when I left her in the library.”
“Thank you, Ben,” Y/N said. “If you do happen to see her, send her home please.”
“Will do, Y/N.” Daimio went back to stretching and Y/N headed back out into the halls to go to her meeting.
In the meeting room:
“Hellboy, why is Azalea on your shoulder?” Professor Broom asked when Hellboy walked into the room. Hellboy was also oddly early for the meeting. Hellboy just shrugged, Azalea moving up and down with the motion.
“She likes to be tall,” He told his father.
“I’m tall!” Azalea agreed, arms in the air. Hellboy took a seat at the far end of the table as Broom rolled his eyes at his son.
Hellboy propped his feet on the table and Azalea crawled into his lap, sitting so that she could try to chew on his stone fingers. Hellboy tried to tickle her with his other hand to distract her, but it didn’t do much. As the other agents began to filter in for the meeting, Azalea calmed some because she wanted to see who was all there because she loved all the agents.
“Hey there’s Bite Size,” Alice said, coming into the room. “Your mom was looking for you before.”
“Oh no!” Azalea cried, attempting to burrow into Hellboy’s coat.
“What’d you do?” Hellboy asked her, pulling her out by the back of her shirt.
“I didn’t do anything,” She pouted. “Probably.”
“I don’t think you were in trouble,” Alice ruffled Azalea’s baby fro, making it stand up even more than it already had been. Alice pulled out her phone and texted Y/N that she’d found the baby.
“Is Mom coming to this meeting too?” Azalea asked, looking up at her dad. Hellboy shrugged.
“What’s the list say, Grandpa?” Hellboy asked with a cheeky grin at his own dad. Professor Broom rolled his eyes.
“Yes, looks like Y/N is supposed to be here, but if she’s off looking for Azalea still, who knows if she’ll show up.” Broom said. Hellboy nodded.
“Maybe we should send the little one to go find her mother,” Hellboy teased his daughter. “What do you think, Little Monster?” Azalea bared her teeth at her father, growling like a beast.
“I think that’s a no,” Alice laughed. Right about then is when Y/N came in through the door and groaned loudly.
“There you are, Aza,” She said. “Where have you been?”
“I’ve had her for about an hour,” Hellboy said. She goes over to him and kisses the side of his head. “I’m guessing I should have told you that before.”
“At this point, I’m just happy I know where she is.” Azalea’s redish face was redder as she looks up at her mother.
“Mom, can I have a screwdriver?” She asks. Y/N could have laughed as she reaches out for her daughter. Azalea happily went into her mother’s arms because it was clear mom wasn’t mad.
“And why do you want a screwdriver?” Y/N asks knowingly.
“No reason,” Azalea said, laying her head on her mother’s shoulder.
“Can we start this meeting now please?” Broom said, clearly annoyed.
“I don’t know what’s stopping you,” Hellboy said. “We’ve been waiting on you, Grandpa.” Y/N took the seat next to Hellboy, balancing Azalea in her lap. Y/N rocked the chair back and forth as she watched Broom attempt to stare down his son, who was staring right back, completely unaffected.
Azalea yawns loudly and Y/N begins rubbing her back. This was exactly why Y/N had been looking for her daughter, Azalea always got tired this time of day. While it was usually pretty harmless for the little one to fall asleep somewhere random, Y/N always worried one day Azalea would get herself in trouble, or end up going on an adventure she didn’t mean to go on because she closed her eyes in the wrong place at the wrong time.
“Whenever you’re ready, Professor,” Alice smiles across the table. The other agents stifle reactions as best they could. Many of them finding it hilarious when the family was all in one room because if it wasn’t Hellboy causing trouble, it was Azalea, or it was poor Y/N trying to keep the peace.
“Thank you, Alice,” Professor Broom said in that I don’t need your permission voice he tended to don in such situations.
Azalea was out like a light on her mother as Broom discusses the upcoming jobs that were available. Y/N had given up trying to take notes herself, and made Hellboy take some for her, which he hated, because it usually entails Y/N smacking him with her free hand when she wants him to write something down.
Forty-five minutes later the meeting was drawing to a close, Azalea suddenly jerks awake, eyes wild. Y/N pats her back and shushes her gently.
“It’s ok, baby girl, I’ve got you.” Y/N murmurs.
“Who’s going to Kentucky?” Azalea whispers back. Y/N raises her eyebrow. No one had mentioned Kentucky at all.
“No one, sweetheart, why?”
“There’s something bad there,” Azalea says, burrowing her head back into her mother’s shoulder.
“She’s not psychic, is she?” Alice asks around Hellboy. Hellboy watches Y/N rubbing Azalea’s back, mutual concern crosses the air between their eyes.
“Not that we know of,” He says. “Why, someone whispering something in your ear too?”
“Not specifically,” Alice says. “But I’ll keep an ear out.”
“It was probably just a dream,” Y/N says hopefully. “Just because she’s half, half-demon, doesn’t mean she’s going to have so many things,”
“But it means she might,” Alice says, wiggling her eyebrows. “It would be cool if she was psychic though. We could bond more.”
“I wonder if something is going down in Kentucky,” Hellboy muses. “Should I make some calls?”
“If you want to, but for now, I’m going to go home for a while. Maybe take a nap myself,” Y/N says.
“Want me to come with?” Hellboy asks, a glint in his eyes.
“If you want, but I’m sleeping.” Y/N stands with Azalea in her arms. Azalea nuzzles into her mother some more, falling back asleep easily.
“I’m ok with that too,” Hellboy grins.
“God you two are gross,” Alice groans.
“What do you know, kid?” Hellboy rubs her head affectionately. “This is what love looks like,”
“I know…” Alice grins. “It’s disgusting,”
