Hello folks, friends, and fellows,
I have never been very good at introducing myself to new people. I find that when meeting or interacting with anybody other than the four or so people I talk to on a daily basis - three of whom are my relatives - the sea of unknown faces washes away any witty, intelligent, or intelligible thoughts from my brain and leaves me with only nervous twitters and long-winded ramblings about my current special interest. This does not turn out too well if at the time said special interest is toxicology!
Even now my hands are sweating as I type out this post, despite knowing that very few people may actually end up reading it and those who do - well, hopefully you can find something likeable within my work. However, in spite of my relative social ineptitude I will attest to introduce myself.
I am the studious wanderer but I will also answer to Viola, Vi, or the girl crying over various pieces of lore. I love fantasy, historical fiction, poetry, (you can read two of my original poems on my blog - hopefully I'll remember to post some more soon!) and fanfiction. I also enjoy musical theatre, obscenely long sentences, making playlists, and video essays. At the moment my favourite books (in no particular order) are:
Passerine by thcscus (unabashed DSMP fan and also fanfic is a real genre I will die on this hill)
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell
the collected poems of Ingrid Jonker
A Slow Regard of Silent Things by Patrick Rothfuss
My least favourite books would have to be A Sliver of Stardust and Hot Pterodactyl Boyfriend.
I am passionate about writing, reading, and consuming media in all its forms, but I also love engaging in conversation and discourse around media and its impacts and perception. I am also always, always here to talk and to listen and I hope that my blog can be a safe space. I want you to know that you are seen, you are loved, you are valid, and you are valued.
Please feel free to request works for review! As mentioned my favourite genres are fantasy, fanfic, and historical fiction, but I will read from pretty much any genre. This applies to other forms of media too - I usually watch dramatic movies in the style of Promising Young Woman, or movie musicals like Moulin Rouge, but I am always keen to broaden my content horizons and connect with you over your favourite pieces of media. Same goes for TV and video essays.).
I will not engage with media that contains graphic sex scenes, torture of any kind, or pieces from the horror genre, particularly supernatural/religious horror. No shade to the genre or the very talented creatives who inhabit it, it is just not really my cup of tea. My general rule is that if something is more violent or otherwise 'intense' than The Umbrella Academy then it is probably not for me. I also want to say from the get-go that my opinions on things are just that: opinions. I completely understand that my thoughts or views may differ from yours and I respect that difference - I really do not want to start any drama or harassment over book reviews. As mentioned, I want my blog to be a safe space where we can all chat and share thoughts about our favourite (or least favourite) things and make friends.
If you are still here, thank you for bearing with me through all of the formalities! I want to tell you all how genuinely excited I am to join this community. The thought of being able to share my thoughts, opinions, and love of words with like-minded people is so amazing to me and I am really really looking forward to it.
I am aiming to post a review every week provided that school or life does not totally derail me - fingers crossed! As a little 'get-to-know-me' I will be starting off with reviews of my favourite and least favourite books respectively so that you can learn a little more about me and I can learn a little more about you guys and the type of content you would like to see me put out in the future.
Here's to the start of a wonderful new adventure, dear readers.
