Two Sides for a New Beginning
Here I am with the final part of June’s themed week in “Lyrical Love”! Today’s subject is a song by the visual kei band The Micro Head 4n’S, precisely their first lead song, named Hello, My Clone and released in the first album A Beginning from the End. on 1st August 2012. This song is the most representative one of the band, featuring their typical energetic and engaging sound and a subject which literally introduces them in their path.
THE MUSIC
An adrenalinic guitar opens a song with a greatly strong rhythm, provived by a good drumming performance; Ricky’s voice is intense and well managed inside the catchy and energetic rock sound here provided, underlined by bright notes and good effects; the single elements build up a simple but really enjoyable song.

Lyrics (Translation)
There’s not a light which sleeps in the soft darkness? You are born in a dream which is escaping from the morning light.
Hello my clone, raise your voice Sing a song of regeneration, a story of a past despair Hello my clone, you are me The world has reborn, the period is the sign of beginning. (I)
Different... same in consciousness... I discovered a scenery.
Hello my clone, so that you cry and laugh Carve the moment of a life, extend two shadows behind your back Hello my clone, behind the past We will be a single period, to rise in tomorrow. (II)
I want to see the end of a dream within a dream tonight...
Hello my clone, raise your voice Sing a song of regeneration, a story of a past despair Hello my clone, behind the past. (III)
THE WORDS
Written by the whole band, the song is really simple in its layout and fits perfectly with the message brought up in their debut concept. As mentioned before, the song is part of their debut release, which is the beginning of a new chapter, as from the title of the same. The key word of the same is clone, literally a perfectly identical copy of ourselves, who the protagonist wants to reconnect with. His purpose is to come in terms with his alter ego, who incarnates a rebel and troubling side, so that they get together for living in a future of rebirth and revitalization and not by case “clone” is the nickname given to the band’s fans, meaning that it’s likely addressed to their audience in general. And now... let’s analyze the song!
I) The text starts with the protagonist, who wonders if there’s any light which sleeps in the soft darkness surrounding him (No light mujyuu ryoku no suimin yami?); then he talks to the reader, telling that he is born in a dream which is escaping from this light, coming from the morning (yume tokireta asa ni Day light kimi ga umareta). Then he defines the reader like a clone of himself and invites him to raise his own voice (koe wo agete), for singing a song of regeneration and a story of a past despair (saisei no uta wo utau zetsubou no saki no monogatari wo); the clone, as per definition, is like him (kimi ga boku de) and together they live in a reborn world, in a period which is a sign of beginning (sekai wa umare kawaru piriodo wa hajimari no aizu, note the use of the word “piriodo”, which in Japanese means both “period” and “era”, like the one seen at the end of the album title).
II) He and the clone seem different, but they have the same consciousness (Chigau… ishiki no naka de onaji…) and he sees a scenery next to him, hinting to a bright future (keshikimi tsuketa, the word “keshikimi” can be translated as “scenery”, but also as “landscape”); then he invites the clone to carve a moment of his own life and leave a shadow of himself and his mate behind, symbols of past, so that he can cry and laugh freely (naki warau you ni/shuusei no toki wo kizamu senaka ni futatsu no kage hirogete); behind their shadowy past, they will become a single period, for rising in tomorrow (ushiro mae de/bokura wa hitotsuni naru piriodo wa ashita e no rise).
III) The final sequence sees the protagonist who aspires to see the end of a dream within another dream, as a loop of his own life (Koyoi yume no yume wo mitai sono owari wo…) and finally the refrain lines of the previous two sequences are repeated, for emphasizing their final meaning.
United and strong for a new beginning, towards new and unknown horizons, an image which The Micro Head 4n’s well rendered around their debut theme. The energetic sound and the efficient words make clear the desire of chasing the life in its brightest shade, a symbol of a refresh which always characterized this band so far, giving them an incredibly positive aura.
That’s all folks! See you on Thursday for a new time-travel in “Throwback Thursday”!
Thanks for the reading!
