hello! do you mind sharing some of your sketching process? i’m simply in love with your art, and i’d love to know how you keep your doodles so flow-y and realistic, especially with the anatomy, posing, and clothing folds. thank you so much, and again your art is wonderful! lmk if this is weirded kind of strangely, i wasn’t sure how to describe exactly what i’m asking for :(
don’t feel pressured to answer immediately! have a good day ! :)
hi thank you! for my pieces it varies A Lottttt (i hate going through a drawing with the same process) but usually it’s either a scribble thumbnail, a silhouetteblock or just a freehand doodle. perspective and anatomy and proportions are whatever at this point i just need to pin the vibe down
and then i take it out onto a separate canvas and start beating it into submission. at this point i start to use refs, sometimes a perspective grid, but i like to keep it rather stylised and loose and move stuff around a bunch
depending on what i want to do with it i might make another sketch with more refs and cry for hours and hours doing a colour thumbnail. then have the time of my life rendering.
as for my doodles…it’s a lot of ‘fuck it we ball’ i’ll be honest…i have a bad habit of not doing construction lines or using refs when i sketch for fun. you can usually tell when i HAVE because i sometimes leave them in. as for anatomy and posing, it’s all up to doing studies and observing, and then translating that into a shorthand stylised way of communicating whatever you’re drawing. clothing folds are pretty intuitive for me so i don’t see the point in repeating what many art tutorials have said before….i suppose it’s just a matter of using refs and simplifying them in a way that speaks to you. personally i like to focus on where the highlights fall and diffuse on the form as well as the shadows.
me if you care
